• India’s Current Account Deficit (CAD) at $4.2 Billion in Q1 FY27:The News: RBI released balance of payments data showing India's CAD widened to $4.2 billion (0.5% of GDP) in Q1 FY2026–27 (April–June 2026), compared to $3.4 billion (0.4% of GDP) in Q1 FY2025–26.

• The PM E-DRIVE scheme has a total outlay of ₹10,900 crore and is being implemented from 1 April 2024.
• Parliament passes Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026.Parliament passed the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, after the Rajya Sabha approved it on 4 August. The Lok Sabha had already passed the Bill.
• The legislation amends the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 and makes provisions relating to delayed registration more stringent.
• Birth/death reported after one year but within two years can be registered only after approval by the District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate or authorised Executive Magistrate.
• The approval is subject to verification of the authenticity of the event.The objective is to encourage timely reporting of births and deaths.

• DRDO conducts successful flight-test of Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket:Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) today conducted a successful flight-test of Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR) at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha. Defence Ministry said that the rocket was tested for a user-defined minimum range of 60 kilometres.
• The Pinaka is an indigenous multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) system used by the Indian Army, named after the celestial bow of the Hindu deity Shiva. Designed to deliver rapid saturation fire against time-sensitive area targets, a single launcher can fire 12 high-explosive rockets in 44 seconds.

• Nationwide Implementation of Viksit Bharat – G RAM G Act
• The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB–G RAM G] Act came into force nationwide on July 1, 2026.
• Key Highlight: Replaces and repeals the historic Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005.

MECON has achieved significant financial milestones in recent years. The Company has reported continuous profits during the last three financial years.

• Six states agree to sign MoU for Kishau Multi-Purpose Dam Project:Home Minister Amit Shah today chaired a crucial meeting in New Delhi, during which consensus was reached among six states on the long-pending Kishau Multi-Purpose Dam Project aimed at the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River.Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the project.Central Government will provide 90 per cent assistance for the water component of the project, while the remaining 10 per cent will be shared by the six states.
• West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari today announced that the historic Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) will soon be revived, with more than 1,000 Gorkha youths to be recruited into the force.
• The Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) is a historic State Armed Police Force of West Bengal, India, deeply connected to the identity and heritage of the Gorkha community. In June 2026, newly elected West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced a major revival plan for the force, pledging the recruitment of over 1,000 Gorkha youth and introducing a 30% to 35% reservation for women. This move aims to lift a 15-year freeze on fresh recruitment that had left the historic unit severely understaffed.

• The two-day meeting of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Indian Ocean Rim Association was hosted by India in New Delhi under India's current Chairship of IORA.
• The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) is a dynamic, pan-continental intergovernmental organization of 23 member states and 12 dialogue partners bordering the Indian Ocean. Headquartered in Ebène, Mauritius, it fosters regional economic cooperation, sustainable development, and maritime security.
• Switzerland's foreign ministry today said a signing ceremony for a deal between the United States and Iran will take place on Friday(19/06/2026) at the Burgenstock resort near the city of Luzern.

• The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal intergovernmental political and economic forum. It consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the European Union (EU) as a non-enumerated member.India often invited as a key strategic partner for discussions on technology, sustainable development, and global economic stability.
• The 52nd G7 Summit began in Evian, France yesterday, with leaders of the world's leading economies holding discussions on major international challenges. French President Emmanuel Macron hosted working dinner on the theme, "Working Together to Address Major International Challenges."
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with Slovakia’s highest State honour, "The Order of the White Double Cross, First Class, during his historic visit to Bratislava.
