- PM Modi launches ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’:Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan on 2 August 2026 through video conferencing.The nationwide campaign is aimed at mobilising India's youth against substance abuse and promoting a healthy, addiction-free generation.
- President Droupadi Murmu flagged off the PBG Soldierathon at Rashtrapati Bhavan.The event seeks to strengthen the bond between civilians and the Armed Forces.Theme: “Supporting Real Heroes – the Armed Forces of India”.The event promotes public participation and solidarity with India's armed forces.

- OPEC+ agrees to increase oil production:The seven OPEC+ countries participating in the additional voluntary production adjustments met virtually on 2 August 2026 to review global oil-market conditions.They agreed to implement a production adjustment of 188,000 barrels per day from September 2026.Countries in the meeting:

- Migration crisis in Ceuta:Since late July 2026, an estimated 80,000 people,mainly young men, have illegally breached and crossed the border from Morocco into the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta in North Africa.This overwhelmed local reception facilities,and also prompted the government of Ceuta to request that the Spanish government declare a national emergency. Most entered by swimming around the breakwaters. at least 111 migrants were reported to have died as a result of the incident

- Varsha Ashok Aglawe – First Woman Director General of GSI-Varsha Ashok Aglawe took charge as the 54th Director General of the Geological Survey of India (GSI) on 1 August 2026.She became the first woman to head the Geological Survey of India.

- Indian badminton player Tanvi Sharma won the Taipei Open Super 300 women's singles title on 2 August 2026.She defeated Vietnam's Nguyen Thuy Linh in straight games:21–16, 21–16.At just 17 years old, Tanvi became the youngest Taipei Open champion and became the first Indian woman to win the title since Saina Nehwal in 2008.
- India entered the final day of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 in fourth position in the medal table.
