National

  • President Droupadi Murmu presented the Gallantry Awards at second Defence Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening. Air Marshal Tarun Chaudhary, Lieutenant General Neeraj Varshney, Lieutenant General Vikas Rohella, Lieutenant General Harbinder Singh Vandra and Lieutenant General Mohinder Pal Singh were awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
  • Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda to Launch Samagra Shishu Bal Swasthya Karyakram Today-Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda will launch the Samagra Shishu Bal Swasthya Karyakram (SSBSK) during the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi today. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that it will carry forward the vision of “Pehle Teen Saal Sampurn Dekhbhal”, recognising the critical importance of the first three years of life for child survival, growth, nutrition and early brain development.
    • It added that the programme will provide integrated home and community-based healthcare for children from birth to three years by merging the existing Home-Based Newborn Care (HBNC) and Home-Based Care for Young Child (HBYC) programmes.
    • SSBSK will incorporate post-partum maternal mental health screening, early childhood development and digital monitoring through integrated health platforms. 
  • Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Proposes Amendments to Medical Devices Rules, 2017 to Streamline Licensing Process:The proposed amendments seek to rationalize the timelines for grant of manufacturing licences for medical devices across different risk categories.
    • Under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, medical devices are classified into four risk-based categories—Class A, Class B, Class C and Class D—with Class D comprising the highest-risk devices.
    • For Class B medical devices, which include low to moderate risk devices such as blood pressure monitors, hypodermic needles and pulse oximeters, the timeline for grant of manufacturing licence has been proposed to be reduced from 140 days to 115 days.
    • Similarly, for Class C and Class D medical devices, which include high-risk devices such as cardiac stents, hip and knee implants, and other orthopaedic implants, the timeline for grant of manufacturing licence has been proposed to be reduced from 105 days to 90 days.
  • Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda launched the Ayushman Sarathi – PM-JAY Whatsapp Chatbot,-The chatbot enables beneficiaries to access essential PM-JAY services anytime and anywhere without the need to visit government offices or call centres.

International

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the National Day celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Independence of Seychelles(29th June). Mr Modi attended the celebrations as the Guest of Honour, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to be accorded this honour.
  • Bangladesh’s fugitive former leader Sheikh Hasina has vowed to return to her country “this year”, according to an interview published on Sunday (June 28, 2026), months after she was sentenced to death in absentia for crimes against humanity. Hasina, 78, fled to neighbouring India in August 2024 after a student-led uprising ended her 15-year, iron-fisted rule.

Sports and culture

  • The Indian women's cricket team has become one of the first sides to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. However, the men's team will have to finish as Asia's highest-ranked side in the ICC Men's T20 rankings by the end of this year to secure direct qualification. The International Cricket Council today confirmed that India, alongside Australia, Great Britain and South Africa, has booked its place in the women’s T20 competition at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
  • Kidambi Srikanth wins silver at US Open badminton tournament:In Badminton, Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth secured the silver medal in the men's singles event at the US Open today after finishing as runner-up in the final. Srikanth went down against Chinese Taipei's Su Li-yang in a hard-fought three-game contest, losing 15-21, 21-16, and 9-21 in the finals.
  • Kerala athlete Ancy Sojan created history at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.She shattered Anju Bobby George's 22-year-old national women's long jump record (6.83m) with a stellar jump of 6.88 meters, qualifying her for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games.

  • National Statistics Day is celebrated annually in India on June 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, who is widely regarded as the architect of India's modern statistical system. Instituted by the Government of India in 2007, this nationally recognized observance aims to highlight the importance of statistical data and tools in socio-economic planning and policy formulation. It specifically honors Prof. Mahalanobis, who founded the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in 1931 and pioneered large-scale sample surveys.

National

  • Union Minister Amit Shah Launches PM Family Care Tracker Pilot Project-The integrated digital platform will track the health, nutrition and education of beneficiaries from pregnancy until the age of 18 using a unique ID linked to Birth Registration Number or ABHA ID. The system will integrate data from multiple government platforms, generate risk alerts, and monitor key indicators including vaccination, malnutrition, school enrolment and dropout rates.
  • Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Inaugurates Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan- the two-day Rashtriya Gramin Vikas organised by the Ministry of Rural Development was inaugurated today in Delhi by Union Minister of Rural Development, and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. On the first day, senior officials and experts from the states engaged in deep discussions and deliberations on various rural development schemes in different sessions. On June 29, which is the second day, Rural Development Ministers from all states and Union Territories will join the conference to discuss policy directions and a collective roadmap.
  • World's 1st Nuclear-Powered Hydrogen Facility: India has officially inaugurated the world’s first clean hydrogen production facility powered by nuclear process heat.
    • Key Details: The facility is operating at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) in Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. It utilizes indigenous technology developed by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) that uses the Copper–Chlorine (Cu–Cl) thermochemical cycle powered directly by the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR).This integration allows large-scale, 100% carbon-free hydrogen production without burning fossil fuels.
  • Corporate Mitra Scheme Commences: The Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced the physical rollout of the Corporate Mitra Scheme, starting with an initial batch of 2,000 certified participants.
    • Objective: First proposed in the Union Budget, this scheme trains and certifies professional "Corporate Mitras" to guide MSMEs through complex tax, accounting, GST, and legal compliance structures.
    • Focus: Primarily targets tier-II, tier-III cities, and the North-East region.

International 

  • PM Modi holds delegation-level talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie in Victoria.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was today conferred with the Guardian of the Blue Horizon, Seychelles’ highest distinction for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development, during his state visit to the East African island nation. 
  • Indian assistance sent under Operation Amistad has reached Venezuela. In a social media post, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar expressed confidence that the Field Hospital Unit, relief supplies, medicines and medical equipment will bolster ongoing post-earthquake relief efforts.

  • Lionel Messi became the first to score in seven consecutive FIFA World Cup matches as Argentina beat Jordan 3-1 in its Group J finale today. It means Messi has been scoring at least 1 goal in each of his last 7 World Cup matches he played.
  • Goa’s Ethan Vaz becomes India’s 96th Grandmaster:Goa’s 14-year-old International Master Ethan Vaz has become India’s 96th Chess Grandmaster after securing his third and final Grandmaster norm at the Sarajevo GM Mix tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ethan won the tournament with finishing ahead of ten Grandmasters.
  • India's Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the men's singles final of the US Open Badminton Championships at the Titan Gym in California today. Srikanth defeated Japan's Yudai Okimoto 22-20, 15-21 and 21-19 in a hard-fought semifinal. He will face Su Li Yang of Chinese Taipei in the final.

  • J&K recognised as “High Performer” in LEADS 2025 Report:The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been recognised as a “High Performer” in the prestigious Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2025 Report, released by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi yesterday
  • MoS for Defence Sanjay Seth addresses inaugural session of Kalam and Kavach, describes Operation Sindoor as landmark success.
  • The Election Commission of India has announced the Special Intensive Revision, SIR Phase-III, which will be conducted in a phased manner across sixteen states and three Union Territories.
    • The states included in this phase are Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Telangana, and Uttarakhand. The Union Territories covered are the National Capital Territory of Delhi, Chandigarh, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
  • In Keralam, Senior Congress leader V. D. Satheesan met Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar this evening and formally staked his claim to form the government. Earlier, the Congress Legislative Party met this evening at Thiruvananthapuram and elected V. D. Satheesan as its leader.
