National

  • President Droupadi Murmu presented the Gallantry Awards at second Defence Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening. Air Marshal Tarun Chaudhary, Lieutenant General Neeraj Varshney, Lieutenant General Vikas Rohella, Lieutenant General Harbinder Singh Vandra and Lieutenant General Mohinder Pal Singh were awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
  • Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda to Launch Samagra Shishu Bal Swasthya Karyakram Today-Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda will launch the Samagra Shishu Bal Swasthya Karyakram (SSBSK) during the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi today. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that it will carry forward the vision of “Pehle Teen Saal Sampurn Dekhbhal”, recognising the critical importance of the first three years of life for child survival, growth, nutrition and early brain development.
    • It added that the programme will provide integrated home and community-based healthcare for children from birth to three years by merging the existing Home-Based Newborn Care (HBNC) and Home-Based Care for Young Child (HBYC) programmes.
    • SSBSK will incorporate post-partum maternal mental health screening, early childhood development and digital monitoring through integrated health platforms. 
  • Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Proposes Amendments to Medical Devices Rules, 2017 to Streamline Licensing Process:The proposed amendments seek to rationalize the timelines for grant of manufacturing licences for medical devices across different risk categories.
    • Under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, medical devices are classified into four risk-based categories—Class A, Class B, Class C and Class D—with Class D comprising the highest-risk devices.
    • For Class B medical devices, which include low to moderate risk devices such as blood pressure monitors, hypodermic needles and pulse oximeters, the timeline for grant of manufacturing licence has been proposed to be reduced from 140 days to 115 days.
    • Similarly, for Class C and Class D medical devices, which include high-risk devices such as cardiac stents, hip and knee implants, and other orthopaedic implants, the timeline for grant of manufacturing licence has been proposed to be reduced from 105 days to 90 days.
  • Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda launched the Ayushman Sarathi – PM-JAY Whatsapp Chatbot,-The chatbot enables beneficiaries to access essential PM-JAY services anytime and anywhere without the need to visit government offices or call centres.

International

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the National Day celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Independence of Seychelles(29th June). Mr Modi attended the celebrations as the Guest of Honour, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to be accorded this honour.
  • Bangladesh’s fugitive former leader Sheikh Hasina has vowed to return to her country “this year”, according to an interview published on Sunday (June 28, 2026), months after she was sentenced to death in absentia for crimes against humanity. Hasina, 78, fled to neighbouring India in August 2024 after a student-led uprising ended her 15-year, iron-fisted rule.

Sports and culture

  • The Indian women's cricket team has become one of the first sides to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. However, the men's team will have to finish as Asia's highest-ranked side in the ICC Men's T20 rankings by the end of this year to secure direct qualification. The International Cricket Council today confirmed that India, alongside Australia, Great Britain and South Africa, has booked its place in the women’s T20 competition at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
  • Kidambi Srikanth wins silver at US Open badminton tournament:In Badminton, Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth secured the silver medal in the men's singles event at the US Open today after finishing as runner-up in the final. Srikanth went down against Chinese Taipei's Su Li-yang in a hard-fought three-game contest, losing 15-21, 21-16, and 9-21 in the finals.
  • Kerala athlete Ancy Sojan created history at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.She shattered Anju Bobby George's 22-year-old national women's long jump record (6.83m) with a stellar jump of 6.88 meters, qualifying her for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games.

  • META to set up first AI-enabled data centre in India with Reliance Industries in Gujarat’s Jamnagar-Facebook’s parent company META today announced that it will establish its first AI-enabled data centre in India. As part of the agreement, META and Reliance Industries will build a data centre with 168 megawatts of capacity at Jamnagar in Gujarat, which META will lease, with options to scale.
  • HM Amit Shah inaugurates Land Port Management System 'Vinimay' for digital border management-Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Land Port Management System (LPMS) – Vinimay in New Delhi yesterday, marking a major step towards digitising and streamlining cargo processing and passenger movement across India’s land borders.
    • The Land Port Management System, Vinimay, is a digital platform designed to integrate operations across land ports into a unified ecosystem. The system will facilitate secure, real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information among stakeholders, bringing land ports at par with advanced digital systems operational at airports and seaports. The platform is expected to improve operational efficiency, enhance ease of doing business and ensure seamless movement of goods and passengers across India’s international land borders.
  • Varanasi becomes first city under Easy Connect model for international travel: Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu-Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has announced that Varanasi now enables international travellers to complete immigration and baggage formalities before reaching Delhi and connect seamlessly onwards to destinations across the world.Varanasi is the first city to be integrated into the Easy Connect flights model.
  • RISA store-The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, through the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED), today unveiled RISA - Timeless Tribal, a dedicated premium brand for tribal textiles, embroideries and handicrafts, and inaugurated the exclusive RISA Store at Gallery No. 2, Rajiv Gandhi Handicrafts Bhawan, Connaught Place, New Delhi.

International

  • 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland.-Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje led the Indian delegation at the 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Artemis III mission-NASA has announced names of three US astronauts and one Italian astronaut as the crew for its next Artemis III, a spacecraft docking demonstration mission scheduled for late next year that will test lunar landers from SpaceX and Blue Origin in orbit for the first time. 
    • US astronauts Andre Douglas, Frank Rubio and Randy Bresnik and Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency will be the crew for Artemis III.
    •  The four-man mission will test moon landers from Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin for the first time in space, setting up a delicate docking demonstration one by one.

Economy and banking

  • Government Extends Validity of Credit Guarantee Scheme for Microfinance Institutions 2.0(CGSFMI- 2.0)-The Government has approved an extension in the validity of the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Microfinance Institutions-2.0 up to 31st August of this year or till guarantees for an amount of 20 thousand crore rupees are issued. The scheme aims to provide credit guarantee support through National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Limited to strengthen lending to Microfinance Institutions(MFI) and facilitate increased credit flow of up to 20 thousand crore rupees to Non-Banking Financial Company-Microfinance Institutions (NBFC-MFI).

  • Coal gasification is the process of converting coal into synthetic gas (syngas)—a versatile mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide—using high heat, pressure, and limited oxygen. This syngas acts as a crucial raw material to produce cleaner fuels, fertilizers (such as urea and ammonia), and industrial chemicals, offering a domestic alternative to heavy imports.
  • The Easy Connect flights model is a hub-and-spoke aviation framework launched by Air India and the Government of India. It allows travelers from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities to complete international check-in and immigration at their origin airport, offering seamless baggage transfer to global destinations via major transit hubs like Delhi.
    •  Passengers clear international immigration at their home airport rather than the busy hub, saving time and bypassing long processing queues.
    • Checked luggage is tagged straight to the final international destination. Travelers do not need to collect or re-check their bags at the transit hub.
