National

  • In West Bengal, Durga Squad for women security and safety in municipal and commissionerate areas, cyber help desk in 500 police stations, and 24 x 7 Women Help Desk in all the police stations have been initiated today.
  • In Jammu and Kashmir, the first batch of pilgrims for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra today reached the twin base camps at Nunwan in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district under tight security.The 57-day pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine was formally flagged off from Jammu in the early hours by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The Yatra will officially begin tomorrow and is scheduled to culminate on August 28.
  • The Ministry of Civil Aviation today launched the AIR SUVIDHA 2.0 portal for Ebola health screening at points of entry international airports across the country. Developed in collaboration with the Directorate General of Health Services and Delhi International Airport Limited, the upgraded digital platform aims to strengthen health surveillance of international travellers through real-time coordination among health, immigration and surveillance agencies for early detection of at-risk passengers.
  • India approves its first-ever satellite-based landing procedure for helicopter operations-India has achieved a major milestone with the approval of the country’s first Private Point-in-Space (PinS) instrument approach procedure for helicopter operations at Undavalli Heliport. PinS procedures use advanced satellite-based navigation technology to enable helicopters to conduct safe and precise instrument approaches to heliports that do not have conventional instrument landing infrastructure.
  • Government approves supply of improved-quality rice under PMGKAY; over 80 crore beneficiaries to receive better-quality rice.For the first time in nearly three decades, the Government has revised the quality specifications of rice supplied under the Public Distribution System ensuring that beneficiaries receive rice with substantially lower broken grain content while maintaining their existing entitlements.
    • Under the approved policy:Raw rice supplied under PMGKAY will contain up to 10% broken grains, replacing the existing specification of up to 25%.
    • Parboiled rice will contain up to 5% broken grains, replacing the existing specification of up to 16%.

  • Bharat Tex 2026, India’s largest global textile event, is set to be held from 14th- 17thJuly 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, showcasing the complete breadth and depth of India's textile ecosystem on a unified global platform. Organised by the Bharat Tex Trade Federation, a consortium of Textile Export Promotion Councils and Industry Bodies, with the support of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the event showcases growing India’s global leadership in textiles, fashion, sustainability, technology, innovation, investment and international trade.
  • Greece becomes the 10th country to accept India’s UPI;India’s global Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is now officially live in Greece. Now eligible Indian visitors can pay digitally at participating merchants without relying heavily on cash or international cards. This makes Greece 10th country on the list to accept India’ UPI.
    • Implementation: Executed through a cross-border partnership between Greece's Eurobank and NIPL (NPCI International Payments Ltd-the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India.
    • List of UPI-Enabled Countries: Greece joins UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia.

Sports and culture

  • The 135th Edition of Durand Cup will kick off from July 25 in Kolkata and will be held across Ranchi, Imphal, Shillong and Guwahati till August 23.The Durand Cup is an annual football competition in India which was first held in 1888 in Annadale, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society (DFTS) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF), it is the oldest existing club football tournament in Asia and the fifth oldest national football competition in the world. The tournament currently serves as the curtain raiser for every Indian football season.
  • Para-athlete Hokato Hotozhe Sema (from Nagaland) achieved the World No. 1 ranking in the Men’s Shot Put F-57 category. Bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games; represents the Indian Army (Red Shield Division / Land Forces).

  • NIPL: Wholly-owned subsidiary of NPCI dedicated to exporting UPI and RuPay tech globally.

  • Gyan Bharatam National Survey of Manuscripts has successfully mapped over 1 crore manuscripts from across the country-The Gyan Bharatam National Manuscript Survey is a major nationwide initiative launched by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, on March 16, 2026. Falling under the broader Gyan Bharatam Mission (announced in the Union Budget 2025–26), the survey aims to establish a comprehensive, geo-tagged "Manuscript Presence Map" of India.On June 8, 2026, Union Minister for Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced that the survey achieved a historic milestone by successfully mapping over 1 crore (10 million) manuscripts across the country.

  • BHAVYA Scheme:Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today launched the BHAVYA Portal to accelerate the development of 100 Industrial Parks across the country.The BHAVYA (Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojna) scheme is a landmark flagship initiative launched by the Government of India under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.Approved by the Union Cabinet on March 18, 2026, and officially rolled out via its dedicated portal on June 8, 2026 by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, BHAVYA is designed to revolutionize India's manufacturing landscape by creating 100 world-class, plug-and-play industrial parks across the country over a six-year period (2026–27 to 2031–32).
  • PM Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan -Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry will launch nationwide celebrations to commemorate ten years of successful implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan from tomorrow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the scheme on 9th June, 2016, to provide assured, comprehensive, and quality antenatal care services free of cost to all pregnant women.

  • India reports current account surplus of $7.1 billion in January-March quarter of 2025-26-India reported a current account surplus of 7.1 billion dollars or 0.7 percent of GDP in the January-March quarter of 2025-26. As per the report released by the Reserve Bank of India earlier today, the current account deficit stood at 25.2 billion dollars, or 0.6 per cent of GDP for 2025-26 as compared to 22.9 billion dollars during 2024-25.

  • In cricket, India registered their biggest-ever victory in Test cricket, crushing Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs on the third day of the one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh today.
  • French Open: Zverev clinches his maiden Grand Slam title-In tennis, Germany’s Alexander Zverev clinched his maiden Grand Slam title, defeating Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in a thrilling five-set final to win the French Open crown at Roland Garros. The world number three prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 in a four-hour-and-20-minute contest on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

  • Akashvani is celebrating its 90 years today. On this day in 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service was renamed All India Radio (AIR).
