National

  • India to host 1st IBCA Summit in June this year:Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav launched the website and logo for the 1st International Big Cat Alliance IBCA Summit 2026 in New Delhi this evening.
  • 100th N-Gen Post Office opened in Shillong-Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M Scindia today virtually inaugurated the 100th N-Gen Post Office of India Post at North-Eastern Hill University in Shillong. The facility has been developed as a modern, youth-centric postal space aimed at serving students, faculty members, and campus residents.
  • Central Bank Digital Currency system to replace DBT system:
    • Puducherry- Beneficiaries to complete mandatory e-KYC to avail benefits of PMGKAY.Beneficiaries have been urged to attend the camps and complete the mandatory e-KYC process to avail benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.
    • Officials said, the digital currency provided under the scheme will remain valid for three months from the date of issue, and beneficiaries should utilise it within the stipulated period to purchase their entitled ration.
    • The Central Bank Digital Currency-based system, introduced in the Union Territory on February 26 this year by the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution, replaces the earlier Direct Benefit Transfer cash system for ration card holders.
  • ECINET App:The Election Commission of India’s robust IT platform ECINET has played a central role in streamlining election processes including real-time monitoring and enhancing transparency during the Assembly Elections and Bye-elections 2026.The ECINET App is a unified, centralized digital platform launched by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to serve both general citizens and election officials. It streamlines public access to essential democratic services while providing a secure management hub for administration staff.
  • All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, News Delhi has distributed artificial intelligence-enabled smart vision glasses to 40 visually impaired individuals, enabling them to interpret their surroundings through sound.These AI-enabled glasses convert visual information into spoken terms and also identify objects, recognise faces, detect obstacles and assist with navigation.The device helps such a person manage their daily tasks independently, from identifying currency notes to locating doorways.

International

  • The inaugural Joint Commission meeting between India and Algeria took place in New Delhi yesterday. During the meeting, the two sides discussed areas of mutual interest in the field of training, military exercise, medical cooperation and defence industries.
  • USA: Indian-origin Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy wins Republican nomination for Ohio governor.In the USA, Indian-origin Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy has secured the Republican nomination for Ohio governor with a commanding 87 percent vote share, defeating Casey Putsch. He will face Democrat Amy Acton in November this year.

Economy and banking

  • India’s manufacturing sector continues to show positive growth in the fourth quarter of 2025-26 despite rising input costs. According to the latest Manufacturing Survey by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
  • SEBI sets up dedicated task force to tackle AI-driven cyber threats:The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has constituted a dedicated task force, cyber-suraksha.ai, to examine emerging cybersecurity risks arising from rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly AI-driven vulnerability identification tools such as Claude Mythos.

Appointments

  • Shashi Shekhar Vempati has been appointed as the Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting today informed that Mr Vempati will hold office for a period of three years from the date of joining. He will succeed Prasoon Joshi as new Chairperson of CBFC.
