National

  • Unemployment Rate for 15+ remains broadly stable at 5.2% for April:Country's unemployment rate (UR) for persons aged 15 years and above remained broadly stable at 5.2 per cent in April, slightly ⁠up from 5.1 per cent in March this year. According to Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation monthly labour force and unemployment data.
  • MP: Two more female cheetahs from Botswana set free in Kuno national park:Two more female cheetahs have been released into the open forest at Kuno National Park in Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh today. With this, the total number of cheetahs roaming freely in Kuno has gone up to 16.
  • Project Saksham: National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in partnership with the Vertis Foundation is empowering rural women through structured skill development for sustainable livelihood opportunities through Project Saksham.
  • Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme :Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid foundation for Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme facility at Puttaparthi in Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh along with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today. The Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme facility, being developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), will serve as the integration, development and flight testing hub for India’s indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft programme. Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, State Ministers, public representatives and officials were present.
  • MP: High Court declares Bhojshala complex in Dhar district a Hindu temple-The Madhya Pradesh High Court today declared the Bhojshala complex in Dhar district a Hindu temple. The court said that a temple of Goddess Saraswati existed here and the site was a centre of Sanskrit learning. The Muslim side calls it Kamal Maula Mosque. The court reached its conclusion based on the Archaeological Survey of India’s report and archaeological evidence.
  • PMAY-G Beneficiary Conference & Maha Awaas Abhiyan State Awards Ceremony to be Held in Maharashtra today.A beneficiaries’ convention of the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana and the state-level award distribution ceremony of the Maha Awas Abhiyan will be held in Satara, Maharashtra, today.
  • The Kimberley Process (KP) Intersessional Meeting 2026 concluded in Mumbai under India’s Chairship, bringing together representatives from KP Participants, Observers, industry stakeholders and civil society organisations for four days of deliberations on the future of the natural diamond sector.
  • Rajasthan gets its first Semiconductor Plant:The Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) developed by ELCINA at Salarpur, Khushkhera, Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, along with the Semiconductor ATMP/OSAT facility of Sahasra Semiconductors Pvt. Ltd., was virtually inaugurated today by Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.

International

  • New outbreak of Ebola kills 65 in eastern DR Congo:An Ebola outbreak in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo has killed 65 people and infected hundreds of others, triggering concerns that the disease could spread across borders.
  • Union Minister Shri Jayant Chaudhary Represents India at Uganda Presidential Swearing-In Ceremony.

Economy and banking

  • India’s total exports, comprising merchandise and services, are estimated at 80.8 billion US dollars in April 2026, registering a robust growth of 13.6 per cent over April last year.

  • Keralam: VD Satheesan to be sworn in as Chief Minister on May 18-In Keralam, the new UDF Ministry will be sworn in on Monday. Meanwhile, discussions on the members of the new Ministry are continuing.

  • Boxing U-17: India concludes its campaign by bagging 17 medals:At the Asian Under-17 Boxing Championships, Indian young boxers concluded their historic campaign today by winning two gold medals and seven silver medals in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. India also bagged eight bronze medals in the Under-17 category.
  • Wushu: Indian team delivers commanding performance with five medals:The Indian wushu team delivered a commanding performance at the 11th Sanda World Cup, winning two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in Macau.
  • Weightlifting: Harjinder Kaur wins bronze in women’s 69 kg category:Harjinder Kaur won a bronze medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Gandhinagar today. She secured the bronze in the women’s 69 kg category snatch event by lifting 96 kg.
  • Thailand Open: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty enter men’s double semifinals.
  • Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reviews India’s preparations for upcoming CWG 2026.Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya today chaired a high-level review meeting to assess India’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026 scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.

  • Kuno National Park is a national park and wildlife sanctuary in the Gwalior Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh, India. It derives its name from the Kuno River. It was established in 1981.
  • Ebola is a rare but severe and often fatal viral disease that causes hemorrhagic fever, internal bleeding, and organ failure. It primarily spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected humans or animals and has an average fatality rate of approximately 50%.

  • Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) is India's flagship rural housing program managed by the Ministry of Rural Development. It provides financial support to homeless families and households living in temporary, dilapidated, or "kutcha" houses to build permanent "pucca" homes. The central government extended the initiative through FY 2024-25 to 2028-29 to construct 2 crore additional rural houses across the nation
