National

  • India records highest-ever annual solar capacity addition, says Union Minister Pralhad Joshi:India has recorded its highest-ever annual solar capacity addition of around 45 gigawatts in the financial year 2025-26.
  • The National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation will celebrate its 25th Foundation Day tomorrow in New Delhi. The event will be attended by Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram and Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durga Das Uikey.
  • Operation Him Setu:The Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps launches Operation Him Setu to evacuate stranded tourists in Lachen, North Sikkim. A landslide has disrupted road connectivity between Lachen and Chungthang in North Sikkim, impacting movement in the region.
  • Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi will launch the 8th edition of Poshan Pakhwada - 2026 in New Delhi this afternoon. The theme for Poshan Pakhwada is - Maximising brain development in the first six years of life.

International

  • US to hold direct talks with Iran in Islamabad to ease West Asia tensions:US President Donald Trump is sending a delegation led by Vice-President JD Vance and other top officials to Islamabad for direct talks with Iran aimed at ending weeks of conflict in the West Asia region.
  • Bangladesh Railways to expand fleet with 200 Indian Broad-Gauge coaches by 2027:Bangladesh is set to import 200 broad-gauge railway coaches from India, with deliveries expected to begin this year and be completed by December 2027, Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam told Parliament on Thursday.
  • India sweeps four UN Economic and Social Council body elections-Former senior diplomat Preeti Saran was re-elected in her personal capacity to the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. She had previously chaired the committee’s session last year. In addition, India secured seats in the Commission on Science and Technology for Development, the Committee on Non-Governmental Organisations, and the Committee for Programme and Coordination.

Economy and banking

  • The World Bank has raised India’s growth forecast from 6.3 percent to 6.6 percent for the current financial year, owing to strong domestic demand and free trade agreements. World Bank expects India to remain the primary engine of growth in South Asia .

Sports and culture

  • In Asian Boxing Championships, Indian women boxers dominated the event today, clinching three gold and one silver in a single day in Mongolia. Reigning World Champion Minakshi Hooda defeated Nomundari Enkh-Amgalan of Mongolia 5-0 to clinch the gold in 48kg. Preeti Pawar overcame the challenge 5-0 against Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao-wei in 54kg, while Priya Ghanghas defeated North Korea’s Won Un-gyong 3-0 in the 60kg final.
  • Ayush Shetty enters Badminton Asia Championships quarterfinals:In Badminton Asia Championships, Ayush Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals in Men's singles after defeating higher-ranked Chi Yu Jen in straight games 21-16, 21-12. However, HS Prannoy exited the tournament after losing to China’s Weng Hong Yang 12-21, 19-21.

  • Nation observes Shaurya Diwas, honours CRPF valour at Sardar Post-Shaurya Diwas is observed every year on April 9 to commemorate the exceptional courage and bravery displayed by security forces during the 1965 India-Pakistan conflict.
