National
- The Chancellor of Austria, Dr Christian Stocker today called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Welcoming Dr Stocker on his first visit to India, the President Murmu said that India and Austria share close and friendly relations based on common values such as democracy and the rule of law.
- Uttarakhand: Surya Devbhoomi Challenge 2.0’ launched to promote heritage conservation & tourism-Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, today flagged off the ‘Surya Devbhoomi Challenge 2.0’ in the Himalayan region of Garhwal, Uttarakhand. The event was inaugurated from Badrinath and is being organized by the Indian Army.The 113-kilometre expedition covers three sacred Kedars-Kalpeshwar, Rudranath, and Tungnath. The initiative aims to promote heritage conservation, tourism, and regional development through adventure sports.
- The Lok Sabha has taken up three bills, namely the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Delimitation Bill, 2026, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for consideration and passing. The three legislations are intended to increase the participation of women in the Lok Sabha and the assemblies of States and Union Territories.
- The Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act, 2023, popularly known as Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, provided for the reservation of nearly one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and the legislative assemblies. The objective of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was to ensure greater participation of women in the democratic polity.
- The Telangana Government has launched a significant statewide initiative to bring artificial intelligence literacy to nearly two million students in government schools. In a strategic partnership with Amazon Future Engineer and the Pi Jam Foundation, the School Education Department today distributed 2,000 laptops to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and other state-run institutions to bridge the digital divide.
International
- President of South Korea Lee Jae Myung will pay a state visit to India from 19th to 21st April. He will be accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung and a high-level delegation comprising Ministers, senior officials and business leaders. This will be President Lee’s first visit to India.
- The seventh edition of the annual India-Uzbekistan bilateral military exercise “Dustlik” has commenced with an opening ceremony held at the Gurumsaray Field Training Area in Namangan, Uzbekistan, yesterday. The exercise aims to enhance operational synergy between the Indian Army and the Uzbekistan Army, with a focus on joint special operations targeting the neutralisation of unlawful armed groups.
Economy and banking
- The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) have signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance information sharing and coordination.
- The National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation has achieved the highest-ever disbursement of six hundred 13 crore rupees, benefiting sixty one thousand 621 beneficiaries in the financial year 2025-26. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said .
- The Ministry of Finance today said that the MoU aims to enable both agencies to undertake outreach and training programmes for regulated or reporting entities.

- In chess, India’s Grandmaster R. Vaishali won the FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament 2026 in Cyprus yesterday. The 24-year-old defeated Russia’s Kateryna Lagno in the final round, finishing with 8.5 points out of 14 to clinch the title.
- Days ObservedDefence Minister Rajnath Singh has offered tribute to Marshal of the Air Force, Arjan Singh on the occasion of his 107th birth anniversary. Great military leader is India’s only five-star Air Force officer whose courage and foresight shaped the nation’s air power.He served as the 3rd Chief of the Air Staff from 1964 to 1969, leading the Air Force through the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.
- Himachal Day is celebrated on April 15th to commemorate the formation of Himachal Pradesh as a province of India on this day in 1948. On April 15, 1948, the state was officially created by merging 30 small and large princely hill states, marking a pivotal step in its administrative history.
