National
- Regional airline Fly91 today commenced operations from Vijayawada International Airport with the launch of services on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada-Hyderabad sector. An inaugural ceremony was held at the Vijayawada Airport early in the morning, with Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu joining virtually.
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed grief at the passing of Maha Vir Chakra awardee Colonel Sonam Wangchuk (Retired), a braveheart of the 1999 Kargil war. Paying tribute to Colonel Wangchuk, Mr Singh remembered his courageous actions during Operation Vijay.
- Deakin University of Australia and the Government of Telangana, through its AI innovation hub Aikam, signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding in Hyderabad to advance applied artificial intelligence on Thursday.
- Government has notified the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Act, 2026, after President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to the bill yesterday. The legislation was published in the Gazette.The new Act provides that 50 per cent of the posts will be filled through deputation from the Indian Police Service in the rank of an Inspector General and a minimum of 67 per cent of the posts through deputation in the rank of an Additional Director General. The newly enacted law seeks to establish a comprehensive and uniform system governing the recruitment and service conditions of Group A General Duty officers and other personnel across various CAPFs – CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB.
International
- Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains restricted despite a two-week ceasefire between Tehran and Washington that began on April 8, with shipping activity still far below normal levels.
- Min Aung Hlaing has been sworn in as the elected President of Myanmar today. He has led the country with strict military control since taking power from Aung San Suu Kyi’s government in 2021. His presidency follows a general election that was widely criticized by United Nations experts and human rights groups.
- Nepal begins New Year celebrations with Bisket Jatra in Bhaktapur-The Bhaktapur district of Kathmandu Valley started early celebrations to welcome the Nepali New Year with music and festivities. April 14 is Baisakh 1 as per the Nepali calendar for the year 2083 as per Bikram Sambat and is a national holiday in Nepal to mark the arrival of new year. Citizens of Bhaktapur celebrate the arrival of the new year by organising a nine-day-long Bisket Jatra.
Economy and banking
- Over two lakh women-led Micro and Small Enterprises entrepreneurs registered on the Government e Marketplace (GeM) Womaniya initiative secured a 13.7 lakh order volume in Financial Year 2025-26. Womaniya Initiative, an inclusion-focused initiative on the GeM, which helps in addressing constraints that limited women’s access to formal Government markets.
- National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) has recorded its highest-ever disbursement since inception during the financial year 2025-26. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said that NSFDC disbursed over 775 crore rupees in the financial year 2025-26.
- Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his ongoing visit to Washington. The meeting took place at the White House and focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sector

- Former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today took oath as Rajya Sabha member. Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath to Nitish Kumar in the Parliament House.

- India wins 16 medals at 2026 Asian Boxing Championships:India concluded its campaign at the 2026 Asian Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, today with an impressive haul of 16 medals, including five gold, three silver, and eight bronze.
- Ayush Shetty enters Badminton Asia Championships semifinals:India's Ayush Shetty stunned world number four Jonathan Christie of Indonesia to enter the men's singles semifinals of the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, China today.

- April 10 is globally observed as World Homoeopathy Day to honor the birth anniversary of Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of the medical system.
- Morarji Desai’s death anniversary is observed on April 10, marking the passing of India's fourth Prime Minister and the first to lead a non-Congress government. He passed away on April 10, 1995, at the age of 99.
- Nation marks 108th anniversary of Champaran Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi-Today marks the 108th anniversary of the Champaran Satyagraha, a defining moment in India’s freedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi. On this day in 1917, in the Champaran district of Bihar, the movement was launched to address the grievances of indigo farmers who were compelled by British planters to cultivate indigo under the oppressive Tinkathia system. It also marked Mahatma Gandhi’s first experiment with Satyagraha in the country.
