Babu Jagjivan Ram (1908–1986), affectionately known as Babuji, was a towering Indian freedom fighter, social justice champion for the "Depressed Classes" (Dalits), and the longest-serving Union Cabinet minister. He played a key role in the freedom struggle, spearheaded the Green Revolution as Agriculture Minister, led India during the 1971 war as Defence Minister, and founded the All India Depressed Classes League
