National

  • IAF conducts take-off and landing exercise on Purvanchal Expressway:In Uttar Pradesh, the Indian Air Force conducted a take off and landing exercise on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur today. The exercise was conducted at the Arval-Kiri Karwat emergency airstrip.
  • Northern Regional Agriculture Conference to be held on 24th in Lucknow:Northern Regional Agriculture Conference is scheduled to be held on 24 of this month in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Chouhan today held a meeting with senior officials and issued directions regarding the conference in New Delhi.
  • Government launches VM Frames National Filmmaking Competition to mark 150 years of Vande Mataram-Government has launched VM Frames National Filmmaking Competition to mark 150 Years of Vande Mataram. The Ministry of Culture in a statement invited citizens to creatively interpret the spirit of the National Song through visual storytelling. The Ministry said the competition aims to rekindle pride in the nation’s shared heritage and inspire a renewed connection with the ideals that shaped its freedom and continue to define its future.
  • Holy relics of Lord Buddha set to be taken to Ladakh-Tathagata holy sacred relics of Lord Buddha are set to travel to the Union Territory of Ladakh. This marks the first time these holy remains will leave its permanent place for an exhibition within the country.
  • The government has constituted the Online Gaming Authority of India, comprising six members. According to a gazette notification of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the authority will consist Additional Secretary of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology as Chairperson. Other five members will include Joint Secretaries from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports, Department of Financial Services, and Department of Legal Affairs.The function of the authority will include categorising and registering online games, deciding whether a game qualifies as a money game, and addressing public grievances. It is established to issue guidelines, codes of practice and directions to ensure compliance.
  • PM Internship Scheme-The government has expanded eligibility criteria of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme to include final-year graduate and post-graduate students.Under the expanded eligibility criteria, final year students between 18-25 years of age can now apply to paid internships in top companies through the PMIS portal.
  • The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing total gross enrollments of nine crore subscribers till yesterday.The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 9, 2015, and became officially operational and implemented with effect from June 1, 2015.

International

  • Air China officially resumed direct flights between Beijing and Delhi yesterday. Spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in India, Yu Jing shared this in a social media post, saying that the skies are connected once again.

Economy and banking

  • The Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee has unanimously decided to keep the policy repo rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent, citing rising global uncertainties and inflation risks.The six-member committee which met recently under the chairmanship of Governor Sanjay Malhotra also retained its neutral policy stance to maintain flexibility in responding to evolving economic conditions.

Sports and culture

  • India’s young shooters won three silver medals and one bronze medal today in the ISSF Junior Shooting World Cup at Cairo in Egypt. In the Men’s 25-meter pistol event, Raj Chandra won a silver medal, while Abhinav Deshwal secured a bronze medal. In the Women’s category, Sejal Kamble bagged a silver medal.Meanwhile, in the Men’s 50-meter rifle prone event, Rohit Kanyan also won a silver medal. India’s total medal tally has reached seven, including one gold, four silver, and two bronze medals.

Days Observed

  • Earth Day: First observed in 1970, this is the largest civic observance in the world, with over a billion people in more than 193 countries participating in environmental activism and climate initiatives.
  • Anniversary of Pahalgam Attack-April 22 marks the anniversary of the tragic 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians (primarily tourists) were killed by armed militants in the Baisaran Valley meadow in Jammu and Kashmir. The event is solemnly remembered across India as a day of national mourning.
  • Israel Independence Day-Israel marked its 78th Independence Day (Yom Ha'atzmaut) on April 21–22, 2026. The national holiday—commemorating the declaration of statehood in 1948—was observed according to the Hebrew calendar, beginning at sundown immediately following Yom HaZikaron (Memorial Day)

  • The Tathagata sacred relics of Lord Buddha are the authentic bodily remains (Sarira-Dhatu) of Gautama Buddha, symbolizing his living spiritual presence. Excavated from ancient Kapilavastu (Piprahwa), these 127-year-old holy relics are permanently housed at the National Museum, New Delhi.
  • The Purvanchal Expressway is a 341-km, six-lane, access-controlled greenfield highway in Uttar Pradesh that connects Lucknow to Ghazipur. Inaugurated on November 16, 2021, it features a 3.2-km emergency airstrip for the Indian Air Force and serves as a major economic corridor linking eastern UP to New Delhi via the Agra-Lucknow Expressway.
