  • Transgender Persons Amendment Bill, 2026: Parliament has passed the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, with the Rajya Sabha giving its approval today. The bill aims to redefine the "transgender" category and streamline the process for obtaining identity certificates.
  • Vande Mataram Advisory Upheld: The Supreme Court ruled that the Ministry of Home Affairs' guidelines on playing the National Song 'Vande Mataram' at public and ceremonial occasions do not violate constitutional freedoms or represent a "threat to conform."
  • Census 2027 Update: The Government informed the Rajya Sabha that questions regarding caste will be formally notified before the commencement of the second phase of the Census 2027.

  • MoS Nityanand Rai Introduces Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 in Lok Sabha:The bill aims to further amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010.Objective of the Bill is to make the use of foreign contributions more transparent and accountable.
  • Gujarat Assembly Passes Uniform Civil Code Bill :The bill proposes a common legal framework to govern marriage, divorce, succession, and live-in relationships, irrespective of religion. With the passage of the bill, Gujarat becomes the second state in the country, after Uttarakhand, to adopt the UCC. Uttarakhand was the first state to pass a UCC Bill in February 2024.
  • Cabinet approves modified UDAN scheme to develop 100 airports at cost of over 28,000 crore in next 10 years-Union Cabinet today approved the launch and implementation of the Regional Connectivity Scheme – Modified UDAN for a period of ten years from 2026-27 to 2035-36 with a total outlay of 28,840 crore rupees. Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said 100 airports will be developed from existing unserved airstrips to enhance regional connectivity.
  • Steel Girders Portal: Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the Portal for Rail-Road Inspection and Stages Management (Steel Girders Portal) to enhance transparency in infrastructure projects.
  • SwaYaan Project: The government announced that over 32,000 beneficiaries have been trained under the SwaYaan project for capacity building in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drones).

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

  • West Asia Conflict & Ceasefire Plan: The U.S. has reportedly sent a 15-point ceasefire plan to Iran through Pakistani intermediaries to halt the ongoing conflict. However, Iranian military officials have publicly dismissed the talks as "negotiating with themselves."
  • Strait of Hormuz Access: The Iranian Foreign Minister stated that while tensions remain, Iran will allow India, China, and Russia continued access to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil chokepoint.
  • Modi-Trump Telephonic Talk: PM Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump to discuss regional peace and the security of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
  • India and Serbia today held the 9th Round of Foreign Office Consultations in Belgrade, Serbia. The Foreign Office Consultations were chaired by Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, Sibi George and State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Damjan Jovic. Secretary (West) also called on the Foreign Affairs Minister of Serbia, Marko Djuric. They discussed ways to intensify the existing cooperation between India and Serbia and also expand the scope of bilateral cooperation.
  • EAM Dr S Jaishankar & Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri meet US Under Secretary of War Elbridge Colby:In a social media post, Dr Jaishankar said they exchanged views on the current geopolitical scenario.
  • Delhi CM Rekha Gupta inaugurates IFFD 2026 at Bharat Mandapam:Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today inaugurated the International Film Festival Delhi, IFFD 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. The week-long festival will showcase over 130 films from across the world, marking a major addition to India’s global cinema calendar.
  • Central Armed Police Forces Bill, 2026, introduced in Rajya Sabha:The Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026, was introduced in the Rajya Sabha today. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai introduced the Bill, which aims to regulate the general rules governing the recruitment and conditions of service of Group A General Duty Officers and other officers in the Central Armed Police Forces.
  • PMKVY 4.0 Launched to Equip Youth with Industry-Relevant Skills for Employment, Says Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat:Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said that Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 was launched for imparting skill development training through Short-Term Training and up-skilling and re-skilling to youth across the country with aim to enhance the employability.

  • Lok Sabha Passes Finance Bill 2026 by Voice Vote:Lok Sabha has passed the Finance Bill, 2026, by voice vote. The bill seeks to give effect to the financial proposals of the Central Government for the financial year 2026-2027.
  • LPG to PNG Transition: The Government has mandated that household LPG supply will be discontinued in areas where Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connectivity is fully available. In the last 25 days, 2.5 lakh new PNG connections were provided.
  • FDI Outflows: Net Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) remained negative for the fifth consecutive month in January 2026, with outflows exceeding inflows by $1.4 billion.
  • Goldman Sachs Forecast: Goldman Sachs revised India's GDP growth forecast for the calendar year 2026 downwards to 6.5% (from 7.0%) citing geopolitical tensions.

The event was formally inaugurated this evening in Raipur by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.The Games are being held in three cities of the state: Raipur, Jagdalpur and Ambikapur. More than three thousand tribal athletes and officials from around thirty States and Union Territories are participating in the event.
