• 84th Anniversary of the Quit India Movement observed:India observed the 84th anniversary of the Quit India Movement on 8 August 2026.The movement was launched after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) adopted the Quit India Resolution at Gowalia Tank Maidan, Bombay (now August Kranti Maidan, Mumbai) on 8 August 1942.Mahatma Gandhi gave the historic call of “Do or Die” (Karo Ya Maro).Exam Points:

• India Medical Device 2026 Delhi:The 9th edition of India Medical Device 2026, the Government of India's flagship conference and exhibition for the MedTech sector, concluded its two-day run from August 7–8, 2026, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Organized by the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), the event gathered top policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders to project India onto the global stage.
• The National e-Governance Division- NeGD, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has partnered with the Association of Australian Education Representatives in India, AAERI, to launch a new digital platform, AAERI Verify. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology informed that platform, integrated with DigiLocker, will enable Indian students applying to Australian universities to securely and digitally verify their academic, identity and financial documents.
• Supreme Court Eco-Buffer Mandate: The Supreme Court mandated a 10-km prior-approval buffer zone for mining and heavy industrial activities around Ramsar wetlands and declared conservation reserves. The order aims to curb siltation, chemical runoff, and hydrological degradation affecting migratory avian corridors.
• Cybersecurity Advisory on "Boss Scams": CERT-In and central agencies issued a national advisory against executable-file malware hijacking WhatsApp Web sessions. Attackers compromise enterprise accounts to impersonate C-suite executives and issue urgent unauthorized fund transfers

International

• The 11th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting was held in Bhopal today under India’s BRICS Chairship. The meeting adopted the Bhopal Declaration, aimed at strengthening cultural cooperation among BRICS member and partner countries. Representatives from 14 countries, including 10 BRICS members and four partner countries, took part in the meeting.
• Makkah Joint Defence Pact: Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed a tripartite regional defense arrangement in Makkah centered on collective deterrence, linking Gulf capital, Turkish defense-industrial capabilities, and Pakistan's military-nuclear assets.

• The government highlighted the role of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) in transforming public procurement through digital governance.GeM enables transparent, technology-driven procurement and has expanded access for MSEs, startups, women entrepreneurs and socially disadvantaged enterprises.The Keralam Police have cautioned the public against allowing their bank accounts to be used as ‘mule accounts’ by cybercriminals to transfer money obtained through online fraud. Students and people from low-income backgrounds are often targeted by fraudsters, who lure them with promises of easy money or commissions.

• The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) Portal is India's official, unified digital platform managed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for the end-to-end procurement of common-use goods and services. Launched in 2016, it acts as a dedicated e-commerce hub where central and state government ministries, departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and local bodies buy directly from registered private sellers, startups, and MSMEs—completely eliminating middlemen.
• A mule account is a bank account used by criminals to receive, transfer, and launder illegally obtained funds. These accounts form the backbone of modern cybercrime infrastructure, allowing fraudsters to mask their true identity by routing stolen money through a chain of seemingly legitimate accounts before it is withdrawn or converted into cryptocurrency.The individuals whose accounts are used (known as "money mules") generally fall into three categories:
• Unwitting Mules: Innocent people who are tricked into letting criminals use their accounts. They are usually lured by fake "work-from-home" payment processing jobs, online romance scams, or requests to help a "friend" transfer funds.
• Witting Mules: Individuals who ignore obvious red flags—such as receiving multiple warnings from their bank—because they are motivated by financial gain or choose to stay willfully blind.
• Complicit Mules: Criminals who intentionally lease out or open multiple bank accounts to advertise their laundering services, actively recruiting other mules to build structured fraud networks.

• Ramsar wetlands are vital ecosystems designated as areas of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, an international environmental treaty signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971.
• CERT-In stands for the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, which serves as the national nodal agency for responding to cyber security incidents across India. Formed in January 2004, it operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of the Government of India, with its headquarters located in New Delhi.
