National
- Sarnath Added to UNESCO World Heritage List:The Ancient Buddhist Site of Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 25 July 2026 during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea.
- With this inscription, India's total number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites rose to 45. Sarnath is particularly important in Buddhism because it is traditionally regarded as the place where Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon, known as the Dharmachakra Pravartana
- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned and submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.He said that, considering the situation at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and across the country, he decided to tender his resignation to the Prime Minister to prevent anti-national forces from exploiting the situation and to ensure that no student’s future gets entangled in legal complexities.
- Bharat Taxi Expands Cooperative Ride-Hailing Network:Bharat Taxi, India's cooperative-based ride-hailing platform, continued its expansion across major Indian cities.As of 25 July 2026, the platform had nearly 8 lakh registered Sarathis (drivers) and around 41 lakh registered customers. It was operational in cities including Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Jaipur, Kanpur and Pune.
- The platform aims to achieve a nationwide presence by 2029.Indian Railways Ranks 2nd Globally in Rail Electrification: Indian Railways achieved a major green milestone, officially becoming the world's second most electrified railway network, with over 97% of its total Broad Gauge (BG) routes fully electric.
- Punjab Launches 'Sarbat.AI' in Schools: Punjab has become the first state in India to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a compulsory, mainstream subject across government schools from Classes I to XII. The initiative equips students with foundational data literacy, computational thinking, and future-ready digital skills.
International
- DBS Named World's Best Corporate Bank:DBS Bank was recognised as the World's Best Corporate Bank by Global Finance.The recognition highlighted DBS's digital banking capabilities and corporate banking services.
Economy and banking
- Punjab National Bank (PNB) and the Government of Andhra Pradesh signed an MoU to establish India's first bank-led Quantum Finance Hub.The initiative is intended to explore the use of quantum computing and advanced technologies in financial services, including financial modelling, risk management and secure transactions.

- Viswanathan Anand Appointed Interim President of FIDE: Indian chess legend and five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand was appointed Interim President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). Anand has served as FIDE's Deputy President since 2022.

- Indian squash player Anahat Singh created history by reaching the Women’s Singles final of the World Junior Squash Championships after defeating Egypt’s Barb Sameh 3-1 in the semi-final at Ontario, Canada, today. She will now face Egypt’s Ruqayya Salem in the title clash today at the same venue

- World Drowning Prevention Day is observed every year on 25 July.The day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2021 to raise awareness about drowning prevention.The 2026 theme is:“Unite to Turn the Tide”According to WHO's 2026 campaign material, drowning claims more than 300,000 lives annually worldwide.
