  • PRAGATI Project to Promote Rural Agri-Entrepreneurship:The Union Agriculture Ministry's PRAGATI initiative aims to develop young rural entrepreneurs and promote modern agricultural practices.
    • The programme seeks to train around 20,000 young people from villages as agri-entrepreneurs.
    • PRAGATI focuses on strengthening rural entrepreneurship and creating opportunities linked to agriculture and allied activities.
  • Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today hailed the Department of Telecommunications’ flagship Samriddh Gram: Integrated Phygital Service Delivery Model Enabled by Bharat Net project on being declared the Global Winner of the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society Prizes 2026.
  • Uttarakhand has become the sixth fully literate State in the country after achieving the prescribed adult literacy benchmarks under the National Education Policy 2020 and the ULLAS – Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society – New India Literacy Programme.With this achievement, Uttarakhand joins Mizoram, Goa, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim on the list of fully literate States, marking a significant milestone in the State’s educational development.(Note: The Union Territory of Ladakh was separately declared the first fully literate UT under the same programme and Kerala is not included in this specific list because the announcement refers strictly to states certified under the new ULLAS – New India Literacy Programme (NILP) framework aligned with NEP 2020, rather than historical rankings.)

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held the 3rd India-Australia Annual Summit in Melbourne on 9 July 2026.The two leaders reviewed progress under the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discussed cooperation in defence and security, critical minerals, cyber and emerging technologies, space, civil nuclear energy, clean energy, education and trade.Key Points:

  • India Hosts ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement Meeting:India hosted the 13th ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Joint Committee meeting in New Delhi.
    • The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental organization established on August 8, 1967, in Bangkok, Thailand.
    • It promotes economic growth, social progress, regional peace, and political stability among its 11 member states in Southeast Asia.

Economy and banking

  • The IMF's July 2026 update projected global economic growth at around 3.0% for 2026, while India continued to be projected as one of the world's fastest-growing major economies.India is holding on to its crown as the world’s fastest-growing major economy with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projecting it to grow at 7% during the current calendar year.

  • FIFA World Cup 2026 – France Reach Semi-Finals:France defeated Morocco in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final on 9 July 2026, advancing to the semi-finals.France won the match 2–0, with goals from Kylian Mbappé and Olivier Giroud.
