• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the next phase of the regional air connectivity scheme Viksit UDAN to give fillip to air travel in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and remote regions. Mr Modi also inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport in Rajasthan yesterday, marking a major push to India’s civil aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity.Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu highlighted that the launch of the Viksit UDAN Scheme will mark the next chapter of India’s regional connectivity journey.

International

• Indonesia to commemorate centenary of Tagore’s visit; events to be launched during PM’s upcoming visit-Indonesia will commemorate the centenary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s historic visit to the country with a 15-month programme during 2026 and 2027.tagore spent nearly three months in Indonesia in 1927, traveling widely and immersing himself in country’s rich traditions. Deeply inspired by his visit, Tagore later sent his associates to Indonesia to study its art, dance, culture and architecture, strengthening the cultural exchange between the two countries.
• India to chair 9th Session of Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy in Geneva, Switzerland:India will chair the Ninth Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy in Geneva, Switzerland. The session is being organised by the United Nations Trade and Development between 6th July to 8th July.
• LOKAYAN 2026:Indian Naval Sail Training Ship INS Sudarshini sailed into New York Port on 4 Jul 2026 to represent India at the United States International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 celebrations. During the spectacular Parade of Sail along the Hudson River, the iconic three-masted barque proudly flew the Indian Tricolour, celebrating India's rich maritime heritage and centuries-old seafaring traditions.
• The visit is part of the ship's 10-month transoceanic expedition, Lokayan 2026, which reflects the Indian Navy's commitment to strengthening maritime cooperation, building international goodwill and deepening engagement with partner navies.
• India will host the BRICS Women Working Group (WWG) Meeting on 6-7 July 2026 in Kochi, Kerala, under its BRICS Chairship this year.
• BRICS comprises 11 countries - Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates, which together account for around 40 per cent of global GDP.
• BRICS represents about 49.5% of the global population. Within this, women's political, social, and economic development shapes outcomes across every sector, making the Women Track a strategically vital track in BRICS 2026.
• UN SDG Index Progress: India achieved its highest rank to date, 94th out of 167 nations (score 68.3), in the 11th Sustainable Development Report (SDR) published by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN). Finland topped the global index.

• In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, England will take on Australia in the final at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London today. Australia secured their place in the final with a victory over the West Indies in the semi-finals, while England defeated South Africa .

Overview of the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme

Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme has emerged as a key pillar of India's energy transition and biofuel strategy. It aims to improve energy security, support farmers, and reduce environmental impacts. The programme also promotes greater use of domestically produced renewable fuel.

Under the EBP Programme, ethanol blending has increased from less than 1.5 percent in 2013-14 to 20 percent in 2025-26. India achieved the 20 percent blending target five years ahead of schedule. Ethanol procurement rose from about 38 crore litres in Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2013-14 to over 1,200 crore litres (projected) in 2025-26. Production capacity expanded nearly fivefold from 421 crore litres in 2014 to about 2,000 crore litres in 2026. This expansion has reduced crude oil imports and saved valuable foreign exchange. It has also lowered greenhouse gas emissions and strengthened farmers' incomes through new market opportunities.
