National

  • PM commissions three indigenously designed and built naval ships – INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, West Bengal.
    1. INS Dunagiri (Project 17A Stealth Frigate)-As the fifth stealth frigate under the Project 17A class, it is built to engage aerial, surface, and underwater threats. It is heavily armed with BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles and medium-range surface-to-air missile systems.
    2. INS Sanshodhak (Survey Vessel Large): As the fourth and final ship in the Survey Vessel Large program, it uses advanced hydrographic equipment, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to map deep waters and coastal regions.
    3. INS Agray (ASW Shallow Water Craft): A specialized hunter designed to neutralize underwater threats in coastal and shallow waters.It is the fourth vessel of the Arnala-class, it is equipped with shallow-water sonar systems, lightweight torpedoes, and indigenous rocket launchers.
  • The 5th India Space Congress (ISC 2026) was held from June 15–17, 2026, at Le Méridien in New Delhi. Organized by the Space Industry Association–India (SIA-India), the three-day event drew over 1,000 delegates and 200 experts from 25 countries to accelerate India's burgeoning space economy.
    • The newly launched Indian Space Industry E-Catalogue is expected to support startups, MSMEs and established companies participating in India's growing space economy.

  • US-Iran Talks Begin in Switzerland to Strengthen Interim Deal & End West Asia Conflict:The United States and Iranian delegation have begun high-level direct talks at Bürgenstock in Switzerland aimed at strengthening the fragile interim agreement between the two countries and advancing efforts to end the West Asia conflict. US Vice-President, JD Vance is leading the US delegation while Iran’s delegation is being led by Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The talks are being mediated by Qatar and Pakistan.
  • India achieved a major milestone by securing the Vice-Presidency of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for the first time. Vivek Aggarwal was appointed Vice-President for the 2026–27 term.Exam Facts-

  • India Beat New Zealand 2-0 to Clinch Second FIH Women’s Nations Cup Title-In Hockey, India defeated hosts New Zealand 2-0 in the final in Auckland today to win their second FIH Women’s Nations Cup title and secured promotion to the FIH Women’s Pro League.
  • At the Asian Relays Championships, India clinched the gold medal in the women’s 4x100m relay on the final day of the second edition of the tournament at Shaoxing in China. The Indian quartet of Srabani Nanda, SS Sneha, Sudeshna Shivankar and Tamanna clocked 43.85 seconds, a season best.

  • World Hydrography Day is celebrated annually on June 21 to raise awareness about the science of hydrography and its vital contributions to safe maritime navigation, ocean exploration, and environmental protection.
