National
- In Jammu and Kashmir, the rescue operation in Gulmarg to rescue around 300 stranded tourists concluded and all the people have been evacuated safely.The Indian Army and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) led the operation at the Gulmarg Gondola following a technical malfunction in the gondola cable car system. The fault caused a sudden suspension of services between the base station and Phase-I, leaving several tourists stranded today.
- Assam government today introduced the Uniform Civil Code Bill in the state assembly. The bill seeks to ban polygamy and make registration of live-in relationships compulsory. The Bill provides that it will not be applicable to any of the Scheduled Tribes residing in Assam. For marriage, the Bill sets 21 years and 18 years as minimum age for men and women respectively, and prohibits polygamy. To safeguard legal rights, the Bill proposes to make marriage and divorce registration compulsory, which will be vital for securing maintenance, inheritance and other legal protection for spouses.
- FM Sitharaman launches initiatives to strengthen MSMEs -Speaking at an event in Mumbai to mark the 37th anniversary of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Ms Sitharaman launched a set of strategic portals and initiatives aimed at strengthening the MSME ecosystem, enhancing last-mile credit delivery and accelerating the modernisation of rural industries.
- The initiatives launched include the SIDBI MachFin Mart, a digital platform to help MSMEs access machinery through a structured marketplace supporting price discovery, standardisation and technology adoption.
- The finance minister also launched the RRB Co-Lending Portal to operationalise partnerships between SIDBI and Regional Rural Banks for improving credit flow in rural and underserved regions.
- Another major initiative launched was MoRE, or Modernisation of Rural Enterprises, a programme aimed at providing transformational support to 10 thousand rural micro and artisanal units over the next three years through cluster-based interventions.
- President Murmu presents Padma awards 2026; late Dharmendra & violin maestro N. Rajam conferred with Padma Vibhushan-
- President Droupadi Murmu today conferred Padma Awards to 66 eminent personalities for the year 2026 at the first Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- Of them two were conferred with Padma Vibhushan, six with Padma Bhushan and 58 personalities were confered with Padma Shri
- Noted film actor Dharmendra Singh Deol has been honoured with Padma Vibhushan posthumously for his contribution in the field of art. The actor’s wife and Lok Sabha MP Hema Malini received the award.
- The legendary Indian violin maestro Dr. N. Rajam was also honoured with Padma Vibhushan.
International
- Five-day annual Haj pilgrimage begins in Saudi Arabia amid regional tension in West Asia:The annual five-day Haj pilgrimage commences today amidst regional tension in West Asia, as more than 1.6 million Muslims from across the world, including India, begin their journey from the holy city of Mecca to assemble in tent-city of Mina in Saudi Arabia.

- Birth Anniversary of Rash Behari Bose (1886–1945) :Rash Behari Bose was a foundational architect of India's armed freedom struggle. He masterminded the 1912 Delhi Conspiracy Case against Lord Hardinge, organized the Ghadar Mutiny, and laid the groundwork for the Indian National Army (INA) before passing the baton to Subhas Chandra Bose.

Rash Behari Bose Key Revolutionary Milestones
- Delhi-Lahore Conspiracy (1912): Bose orchestrated a daring assassination attempt on the British Viceroy, Lord Hardinge, by throwing a bomb at his procession in Delhi. He successfully evaded a massive British manhunt by using various clever disguises.
- The Ghadar Mutiny (1915): He acted as a key coordinator for the Ghadar Movement inside India, attempting to trigger a synchronized pan-Indian mutiny within the British Indian Army.
Strategic Asylum and Legacy in Japan
- The Nakamuraya Escape: Following the failure of the 1915 uprising, he fled to Japan. To remain hidden from British agents, he took refuge at the famous Nakamuraya Bakery in Tokyo. He famously introduced authentic Indian curry to their menu, which remains a culinary legacy in Japan to this day.
- Indian Independence League: In 1942, he established the Indian Independence League to systematically organize expatriate Indians and prisoners of war outside India to fight British rule.
- Founding the Azad Hind Fauj: Bose formed the first iteration of the Indian National Army (INA) in 1942. Recognizing the dynamic mobilization capability of Subhash Chandra Bose, he formally handed over the leadership of both the League and the INA to him in 1943.
- The Death and the Japanese honor :Bose passed away in Tokyo on January 21, 1945. For his exceptional contributions, the Japanese government honored him with the prestigious Order of the Rising Sun.
