National
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said government has made special provisions to exclude all tribal communities from the ambit of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), ensuring that their rights are fully protected. Addressing the Janjati Sanskritik Samagam in New Delhi, Mr Shah said the UCC will not infringe upon any tribal rights.
- The Ayushman Bharat scheme will start in West Bengal from July this year. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced it in Kolkata after a virtual meeting with Union Health Minister JP Nadda yesterday.Ayushman Bharat is India's flagship national healthcare program designed to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Launched in 2018, it operates through two major components: Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) for primary preventive care and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which provides a cashless health cover of ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalization. As of mid-2026, the scheme has achieved pan-India operational status across all 36 States and Union Territories, following West Bengal's integration into the program.
- International79th World Health Assembly concludes in Geneva-Held under the theme “Reshaping global health: a shared responsibility", the assembly adopted more than 20 decisions and 13 resolutions on issues including stroke, tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, emergency care, haemophilia, precision medicine and radiation.
- WHO Declares Ebola Outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern; Africa CDC Declares Public Health Emergency of Continental Security-In light of the reported outbreaks of Ebola Disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda, the World Health Organization (WHO), under the International Health Regulations (IHR), 2005, on 17 May 2026, determined the situation to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
- The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has also officially declared the ongoing outbreak of Bundibugyo strain Ebola Virus Disease affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS).

- IPL Cricket: Rajasthan Royals defeat Mumbai Indians by 30 runs to seal Play-offs spot:In IPL Cricket, Rajasthan Royals defeated the host Mumbai Indians by 30 runs at Wankhede stadium. Put into bat, Rajasthan Royals posted 205 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, chasing a target of 206 runs, the Mumbai Indians managed to score 175 runs.
- Iran’s football team has decided to shift its FIFA World Cup 2026 base camp from the United States to Mexico after receiving approval from FIFA. The move comes amid rising geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the US and Israel ahead of the tournament beginning next month.
