National

  • Fastest man in India;On the second day of the 2026 Athletics Federation Cup, Gurindervir Singh clinched the gold medal in the men’s 100m event in Ranchi with a new national record timing of 10.09 seconds. He improved his previous personal best of 10.17 seconds and comfortably surpassed the Commonwealth Games qualification mark of 10.16 seconds.He is a Petty Officer in Indian Navy.
  • The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has successfully completed its first-ever all-women international mountaineering expedition to Mount Everest, marking a historic milestone in the Force’s mountaineering achievements. In a statement, the ITBP said the 14-member team, comprising 11 women climbers and three technical and support staff, summited the world’s highest peak on the 21st of this month via the South Col route from the Nepal side. The expedition was flagged off from ITBP headquarters on 19th April.
    • As part of its “Clean Himalaya–Save Glacier” campaign, the team also carried out environmental awareness activities and collected non-biodegradable waste from the Everest region.
  • As part of nationwide drive to prevent cervical cancer, the HPV Vaccination campaign will start in West Bengal from 30th May this year. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari today announced.The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine is a highly effective, safe preventative measure that protects against cancer-causing HPV strains and genital warts.India offers free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations for 14-year-old girls through government health facilities, following the launch of a historic nationwide campaign. The vaccine is fully integrated into the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) and is administered as a single dose.
  • In Telangana, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has achieved a major milestone in kidney transplant surgery by completing 2,000 transplants, making it a leading institution in South India for the procedure. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy congratulated the NIMS medical team

International

  • Indian Army officer Major Abhilasha Barak, serving with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, has been honoured with the prestigious United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award for 2025.Major Barak is currently serving with the Indian Battalion as Commander of the Female Engagement Team in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). She is also the first woman combat helicopter pilot of the Indian Army.
  • In the United States, Kevin Warsh has taken the oath of office as Chairman of the US Federal Reserve Board of Governors, succeeding Jerome Powell, who had held the position since 2018.The appointment comes amid tensions over interest rate policy following disagreements with former Chair Jerome Powell.

Economy and banking

  • RBI approves record ₹2.86 lakh crore surplus transfer to Central Government for Financial Year 2025-26-The Reserve Bank of India has approved the transfer of a record ₹2.86 lakh crore as surplus to the Central Government for the financial year 2025-26, marking one of the highest dividend payouts by the central bank.In a statement, the RBI said its gross income increased by 26.42 per cent during Financial Year 2025-26 compared to the previous year, while expenditure before risk provisions rose by 27.60 per cent. According to the central bank, net income before risk provisions and transfer to statutory funds stood at ₹3.95 lakh crore in FY26, up from ₹3.13 lakh crore in FY25. The RBI’s balance sheet also expanded by 20.61 per cent to ₹91.97 lakh crore as of March 31 this year.

Sports and culture

  • In Tennis, India’s Yuki Bhambri and his New Zealand partner Michael Venus finished runners-up at the Geneva Open after suffering a hard-fought defeat in the ATP 250 Men’s doubles final today. The third-seeded Indo-Kiwi pair lost 6-3, 6-7, 7-10 to Romain Arneodo of Monaco and Australia’s Marc Polmans

  • The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is one of India's elite Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Popularly known as the "Himveers," the force is primarily tasked with guarding the 3,488 km long India-China border. It operates across some of the harshest mountainous terrains in the world, with border outposts located at altitudes ranging from 9,000 to 18,800 feet.
