  • LG Manoj Sinha lays foundation stone for Akshaya Patra’s centralised kitchen facility in Katra, J&K:In Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today laid the foundation stone of Akshaya Patra’s centralised kitchen facility in Katra. Once operational, this facility will provide 5 thousand nutritious meals to schoolchildren every day.
  • West Bengal government has begun handing over land to Border Security Force (BSF) for barbed-wire fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

International

  • WHO declares Public Health Emergency over Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda:The World Health Organization has noted that a total of 650 suspected cases, including 144 deaths, linked to the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola have been reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda as of May 21.
  • President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides today visited the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai and participated in the traditional bell-ringing ceremony.
  • The UK has signed a trade agreement with six Gulf nations, in what is described as a huge win for British business.The deal with the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), comprising Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, is expected to eliminate around 580 million pounds in annual tariffs on British exports once fully in force.The GCC agreement is the third major trade deal secured under UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government, following agreements with India and South Korea.
  • India-Africa Forum Summit postponed due to evolving health situation in Afric:The fourth India-Africa Forum Summit, scheduled to be held from 28th to 31st May in New Delhi, has been postponed in view of the evolving health situation (EBOLA outbrake)in parts of Africa.
  • India and Italy will celebrate 2027 as the “Year of Culture and Tourism” to promote cultural exchanges and strengthen dialogue between the two ancient civilisations.Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the initiative will help deepen mutual understanding and further strengthen cultural diplomacy between the two countries.

  • Anti-Terrorism Day being observed today across the nation-Anti-Terrorism Day is being observed today across the nation. The objective behind the observance of this day is to wean away the youth from terrorism and the cult of violence by highlighting the sufferings of common people and showing how it is prejudicial to the national interest.The day is marked by a pledge-taking ceremony among other activities. It was on this day in 1991 that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi fell to the designs of terrorists.
