National

  • Defence Ministry signs Rs 975 crore contracts to procure TRAWL systems for T-72 and T-90 Tanks-The contracts were signed with Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Pvt. Limited in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi. The Ministry of Defence, in a statement, said that the TRAWL Assembly for T-72 and T-90 Tanks is critical equipment which will enhance the minefield breaching capability of the Indian Army. It will generate additional capability of creating Vehicle Safe Lanes through minefields with anti-tank mines.
  • The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship convened a Capacity Building and Review Workshop under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) on the theme of Viksit Gaon for Viksit Bharat in New Delhi on Tuesday. The Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) is a flagship initiative by the Government of India designed to comprehensively develop select villages along the nation's international land borders. The scheme aims to reverse out-migration, boost tourism, and strengthen national security by transforming remote border settlements into prosperous, self-reliant communities.
  • Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel INS Sunayna arrived at Jakarta in Indonesia on Tuesday, marking the third port call of its deployment under the Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR initiative in the Indian Ocean Region. The Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR initiative is a flagship maritime security cooperation program by the Indian Navy designed to train and embed multinational naval personnel onboard a single Indian warship to advance collaborative security in the region. Grounded in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's overarching vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and the enhanced MAHASAGAR framework, the initiative functions under the core philosophy of "One Ocean, One Mission".

International

  • Japan scrapped a ban on lethal weapons exports, a major change in its post-World War-2 pacifist policy as the country seeks to build up its arms industry amid worries over Chinese and North Korean aggression.

Economy and banking

  • India’s economy projected to grow at 6.4% this year and 6.6% in 2027-according to a report by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

  • Apple Announces John Ternus as Successor to Tim Cook as CEO from September 1-John Ternus is set to become the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Apple, succeeding Tim Cook, who will step down on 1st of September this year.

  • Garia Puja is being celebrated across Tripura on Tuesday with great enthusiasm and devotion.Garia Puja is the most prominent spring harvest and agricultural festival of Tripura, celebrated by indigenous communities like the Tiprasa, Jamatia, and Reang tribes. Held for seven days and nights in mid-April (the month of Baisakh), the festival honors Baba Garia, the deity of livestock, wealth, and fertility.
  • Adi Shankaracharya birth anniversary- It is observed annually on the Panchami Tithi during the Shukla Paksha of the Vaishakha month:Adi Shankaracharya was born in the village of Kalady in Kerala, India. He is credited with consolidating and reviving the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta, a core school of Hindu philosophy. Despite his short life (he passed away at the age of 32), his commentaries on the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Brahma Sutras reshaped Indian spiritual thought and united the monastic traditions across the country.
  • India celebrates National Civil Services Day every year on April 21 to acknowledge and honor the contributions of civil servants who work tirelessly to run the country's administrative machinery and implement public welfare policies.
  • World Creativity and Innovation Day is being observed on April 21st globally. The United Nations designated this day to raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in all aspects of human development
