National
- The Unnat Krishi Mahotsav 2026 concluded in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, today. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasised adopting agricultural system knowledge and modern technologies. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted that a comprehensive Seed to Market agricultural roadmap has been prepared for the region.
- The Indian Army today flagged off its first blue-water sailing expedition, Samudra Sahas, from Marve in Mumbai as part of the bicentenary celebrations of the Regiment of Artillery.The 520 nautical mile expedition along the Konkan coast will be conducted in four legs from Mumbai to Vijaydurg, Goa and back, using 21-foot Seabird class sailing boats. The team will sail about 7 nautical miles off the coast, navigating varying wind conditions.
- The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology has signed an agreement with Casey Aviation Private Limited for the project titled Boost Electric Jump Take-Off (JTO). The Ministry of Science and Technology said that the TDB-supported project focuses on the development of an advanced hybrid propulsion-based JTO system aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of unmanned and light aircraft platforms.
International
- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed his military secretary, Major General Roman Gofman, as the next Director of the Israeli Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations, Mossad.
- The City of Seattle has become the first city government in the United States to host a life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda at the Westlake Square Park. The life-size bronze statue was jointly unveiled today by Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and the Consul General of India in Seattle.
Economy and banking
- The government has notified the Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0 with a corpus of ten thousand crore rupees to boost capital flow into the country’s startup ecosystem. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that investments under the scheme will focus on Alternative Investment Funds supporting priority segments, including deep tech startups and early growth stage. The Ministry informed that Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) will commence operationalisation of the scheme as the Implementation Agency with effect from the date of notification.
Sports and culture
- The Indian Athletics Series 4 concluded at Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi yesterday, with participation from over 200 athletes across the country. The event was organised by the Athletics Federation of India in association with the Jharkhand Athletics Association
Days Observed
- Jallianwala Bagh Day, observed annually on April 13, marks the tragic anniversary of the 1919 Amritsar massacre. It commemorates the hundreds of unarmed Indian civilians who were killed when British troops commanded by Brigadier General Reginald Dyer opened fire on a peaceful gathering.
- Siachen Day being observed today-On Siachen Day, the Indian Air Force and Indian Army today paid tribute to bravehearts who have sacrificed their lives in defending the world’s highest battlefield, Siachen in Ladakh. The operation Meghdoot was launched on this day in 1984, when the Indian Army and Indian Air Force advanced to the Siachen glacier to secure the heights dominating the Northern Ladakh region.

- The Siachen Glacier, a 75-kilometer-long ice field in the eastern Karakoram Range known as the "Place of Roses," is widely recognized as the "world's highest battlefield". Situated northeast of point NJ9842, the glacier has been under Indian administration since 1984, separating Pakistan and China.
- Mossad, officially known as ha-Mossad le-Modiin ule-Tafkidim Meyuhadim (The Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations), is the national intelligence agency of Israel. Established on December 13, 1949, it reports directly to the Prime Minister and is responsible for foreign intelligence gathering, covert operations, and counter-terrorism.
