National

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will attend a national level ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’ on 13th April 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi . He will also address the gathering on the occasion.The programme will witness participation of eminent personalities and women achievers from diverse fields. It will bring together representatives from different sectors such as government, academia, science, sports, entrepreneurship, media, social work and culture.
  • First edition of Indian Navy’s biannual Commanders’ Conference 2026 is scheduled over a period of three days at Nausena Bhawan, New Delhi, from 14 Apr to 16 Apr 2026. The Apex Level Conference offers a stage for comprehensive review of Navy’s operational posture to protect national maritime interests, capability development and strategic alignment with national security objectives.
    • This edition holds significant importance in the light of swift naval deployments to safeguard India’s Energy Security, amidst ongoing conflict in West Asia with convergence of Multi-National Forces (MNFs) in the Indian Ocean Region. 
  • Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92. She died at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai following multi-organ failure after a cardiac arrest.
  • The Department of Posts, Karnataka Postal Circle, today unveiled two commemorative postage stamps and souvenir sheets celebrating the remarkable progress of India’s human spaceflight programme led by the Indian Space Research Organisation.
  • The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) platform (mybharat.gov.in), successfully organised a nationwide Nari Shakti Youth Parliament on 12 April 2026, ahead of the Grand Finale of the MY Bharat Budget Quest 2026. Anchored in the theme “Nari Shakti: Viksit Bharat Ki Awaaz - Strengthening Inclusive Democracy”, the initiative was conducted simultaneously across 17 zones, bringing together over 7,000 young women in a landmark exercise of structured democratic participation and youth-led policy dialogue.

International

  • Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita offered solemn respects on behalf of the Indian Government at the 40th day mourning ceremony organised by the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi.
  • An Indian Army contingent comprising 60 personnel departed today for the 7th edition of the India-Uzbekistan joint military exercise, Exercise DUSTLIK. The exercise, which commenced today in Uzbekistan, will continue until the 25th of this month

Sports and culture

  • In the Asian Wrestling Championships, India's Sujeet Kalkal and Abhimanyou Mandwal won gold medals in the men’s 65kg and 70kg freestyle categories, respectively in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, yesterday.
  • In Tennis, Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(5), 6-3 in the finals of the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin in France this evening. By clinching the title, Jannik Sinner returned to the top spot in the world for the first time since November last year.
  • India concludes its campaign at Asian Wrestling Championships with 17 medals:India concluded its campaign at the Asian Wrestling Championships with a total of 17 medals, adding two silver and one bronze on the final day in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, today.
  • India's Ayush Shetty secured silver medal at the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, China, today. Ayush finished as runner-up after losing to China’s Shi Yuqi in the final by 8-21, 10-21.

  • April 12 is globally observed as the International Day of Human Space Flight, which commemorates the anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's historic first spaceflight in 1961.
