• NAMASTE Scheme Strengthens Safety of Sanitation Workers:The Government highlighted the progress of the NAMASTE Scheme, aimed at ensuring the safety, dignity and social security of sanitation workers while promoting mechanised sanitation.
• NAMASTE stands for:National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem
• The scheme is being implemented jointly by the:Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.
• As of July 2026, more than 89,000 sewer and septic-tank workers and over 2.81 lakh waste pickers had been validated under the scheme.
• The initiative seeks to eliminate hazardous manual cleaning of sewers and septic tanks and encourage mechanised sanitation.
• Inauguration of India’s First Immersive Language Museum (“Museum of Word”):Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Museum of Word at the historic Belvedere House inside the National Library campus in Kolkata.Developed by the Ministry of Culture and the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) across nine thematic galleries, it showcases the evolution of nearly 380 Indian languages and scripts, ranging from the Indus-Saraswati symbols and Gunjala Gondi to modern regional dialects.
• India has commissioned its first-ever geothermal wells in Ladakh:New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi has noted that India has commissioned its first-ever geothermal wells at Puga Valley, Ladakh, paving the way for the country's first 1 MW geothermal power project.

Bank Nationalisation in India

• Firt Phase (1969): 14 major private commercial banks with deposits exceeding ₹50 crore were nationalised on July 19, 1969, under the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Ordinance, 1969.
• Second Phase (1980): 6 more commercial banks with deposits over ₹200 crore were nationalised on April 15, 1980.

Sports and culture

• PV Sindhu Wins Japan Open 2026:Indian badminton star PV Sindhu won the Japan Open 2026 women's singles title, defeating Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in the final.Sindhu won the match 21–17, 21–17 in straight games.This was a historic achievement as Sindhu became the first Indian to win the Japan Open women's singles title.
• Spain Wins FIFA World Cup 2026:Spain became the FIFA World Cup 2026 champion, defeating defending champions Argentina 1–0 after extra time in the final.The final was played on 19 July 2026 at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
• Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute.

• The birth anniversary of Mangal Pandey, the pioneer of India's 1857 freedom struggle, is celebrated every year on July 19th. He was born on July 19, 1827, in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh.
• Bonalu Festival Celebrated in Telangana:Bonalu is an important traditional festival celebrated primarily in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.The festival is dedicated to Goddess Mahankali.
• July 19: Commemoration of the Bank Nationalisation Day in India (Marking July 19, 1969, when 14 major commercial banks were nationalised by presidential ordinance).

• Mangal Pandey is famous for sparking the Indian Rebellion of 1857. As a soldier in the British army, he rebelled against new rifle cartridges greased with animal fat, attacked British officers in Barrackpore on March 29, 1857, and was executed by hanging on April 8, 1857.His actions helped start the massive 1857 revolt across India against the East India Company.
• A geothermal well is a deep hole drilled into the Earth to bring up hot water or steam. This natural heat is used to make clean electricity or to warm up buildings.
