• Bharat Buildcon 2026:Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Manohar Lal and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada today inaugurated Bharat Buildcon 2026 – One Nation, One Expo in New Delhi. Bharat Buildcon is an exhibition for the building materials and construction industry.
• Replacement of old trucks and buses in Delhi-NCR-The Road Transport and Highways Ministry and Tata Motors today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for replacement of old trucks and buses in the Delhi-NCR region. Under the agreement, the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) will provide an 8 per cent discount on the ex-showroom price of eligible trucks and buses purchased under the scheme.
• First indigenous Air Cushion Vehicle inducted into Indian Coast Guard in Goa-The first of the six indigenous Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs), being constructed by Chowgule and Company Private Limited for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), was inducted into service in Goa today. Defence Ministry said that the hovercraft aims to enhance Coast Guard’s operational effectiveness across a broad spectrum of maritime duties and reinforce its ability to respond to emerging challenges.
• Jal Jeevan Mission milestone: 16 crore houses have been provided with piped water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil announced this today at an event titled Water Conservation in India: Challenges & Solutions, organised by the Merchant Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Kolkata. He stated that an additional 3 crore houses will be connected under the scheme by December 2028.
• The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India designed to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual functional household tap connections (FHTCs) to all households in rural India. Originally launched in August 2019 with a 2024 target, the Union Cabinet extended and restructured the program into Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 (JJM 2.0), pushing the final universal rural coverage timeline to December 2028.
• PM Modi to release 23rd instalment of PM-KISAN from West Bengal-The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a central sector scheme by the Government of India launched on 24 February 2019 to support land-holding farmer families nationwide. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive a total of ₹6,000 per year provided in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 every four months.
• PMKISAN Key Prerequisites to Receive Benefits:To ensure funds are successfully credited through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, farmers must fulfill three mandatory criteria: 
• e-KYC Completion: The farmer's electronic Know Your Customer process must be verified.
• Aadhaar Seeding: The beneficiary’s bank account must be actively linked with their Aadhaar number.
• Land Records Integration: The farmer’s cultivable land records must be accurately seeded and verified on the official portal.
• The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) will host the First BRICS MSME Forum and the Third SME Working Group Meeting in Agra tomorrow under the theme, Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.

International

• Bangladesh's measles outbreak continues to worsen, with five more children dying from measles and measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to this morning, taking the total death toll to 666.
• KHAAN QUEST 2026:An Indian Army contingent will leave today for Mongolia to participate in the multinational joint military exercise, Exercise KHAAN QUEST 2026, scheduled to be held from 20 June to 3 July at the Five Hills Training Area in Ulaanbaatar. The exercise first started as a bilateral event between USA and Mongolian Defence Forces in the year 2003. Subsequently, from the year 2006 onwards, the exercise graduated to a Multilateral Peacekeeping Exercise with the current one being the 23nd iteration.Exercise Khaan Quest 2026 features over 1,100 military personnel from 18 participating countries.
• University Rankings 2027-The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has secured the number one spot globally for the 15th consecutive year in the newly released QS World University Rankings 2027,followed by Imperial College London. Published in June 2026, the 2027 edition evaluates over 1,500 institutions across 106 countries, grading them on factors like academic reputation, employer outcomes, and research impact.Education Ministry today said that 52 Indian institutions have featured in the QS World University Rankings 2027. IIT Delhi remains India’s highest-ranked institution at 118th globally, while IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras are among the world’s Top 200 universities.

• Goa Revolution Day is observed annually on June 18 to commemorate the historic 1946 uprising against Portuguese rule, which eventually led to the state's liberation. It marks the day when Indian socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia and local campaigner Julião Menezes gave a clarion call for Goans to unite and fight for freedom.
• History of the Revolution:On June 18, 1946, Dr. Lohia and Dr. Menezes addressed a massive public gathering in Margao, defying a strict Portuguese ban on public meetings.
• Their speeches ignited a mass civil disobedience movement. The Portuguese administration arrested both men, which led to widespread, defiant public protests and strikes across Goa.
• This event is widely recognized as a turning point in the Goan independence movement, inspiring a sustained struggle that ultimately culminated in Goa's liberation on December 19, 1961
• Autistic Pride Day is being observed today. The Day recognises the importance of pride for autistics and promotes the understanding of autism not as a disease but as a difference. The core themes for Autistic Pride Day 2026 focus on three central pillars: Recognition, Representation, and Reform.
• Rani Lakshmibai, the valiant Queen of Jhansi, attained martyrdom on June 18, 1858, during the Battle of Gwalior in the Revolt of 1857. Fighting heroically against British forces, she suffered fatal injuries near Kotah-ki-Serai, cementing her legacy as an eternal symbol of anti-colonial resistance.
• Historical Background & The Battle of Gwalior:The Doctrine of Lapse- After her husband's death, the British East India Company refused to recognize her adopted son and attempted to annex Jhansi. She fiercely defied them, famously declaring, "Main apni Jhansi nahi doongi" (I shall not give up my Jhansi).
• The Final Stand: During the siege of Gwalior, the Rani fought bravely in cavalry attire, defending her position against the British troops commanded by General Hugh Rose.
• Ultimate Sacrifice: She was mortally wounded on the battlefield. To prevent her body from falling into British hands, it was cremated by local hermit and supporters at Phool Bagh, Gwalior.

Initiated primarily by Lord Dalhousie (Governor-General of India, 1848–1856), it stipulated that any dependent princely state would automatically be annexed if the ruler died without a direct biological male heir.
