National

• Launch of drone-based mail transmission service in Himachal Pradesh-Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced the launch of drone-based mail transmission service by Department of Posts in Himachal Pradesh. The service was started yesterday between Mandi Head Post Office and Rehardhar Branch Post Office in the State. Ministry of Communications has said that the Department of Posts has planned the deployment of drone-based mail transmission across around 150 identified routes in Himachal Pradesh and Assam over the next two to three months.
• Inaugural batch of pilgrims for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 flagged off from New Delhi-The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a highly revered pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar in Tibet. Organized annually between June and September, the arduous journey requires excellent physical fitness to traverse altitudes exceeding 5,000 meters. Pilgrims travel via government-sponsored routes or private heli-tours through Nepal and India.
• El Niño :The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that El Niño conditions are present over the equatorial Pacific Ocean and are expected to strengthen further during the Southwest Monsoon season.El Niño is a naturally occurring climate pattern characterized by the unusual warming of sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. It represents the "warm phase" of a larger, irregular cycle known as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), whereas La Niña represents the cool phase. Arising every two to seven years and typically lasting 9 to 12 months, El Niño temporarily triggers major disruptions in global weather, ecosystems, and economies.
• Nipah outbreak in Keralam, -In the wake of the Nipah outbreak in Keralam, experts from the National Centre for Disease Control reached Kozhikode district today to review the containment measures.Nipah virus is a severe, sometimes fatal zoonotic disease that spreads from animals to humans, causing fever, respiratory illness, and brain swelling (encephalitis).
• The natural hosts are fruit bats (Pteropus species). In India, periodic outbreaks occur, often linked to direct exposure to infected bats or contaminated raw date palm sap.Fatality Rate.
• The case fatality rate is high, typically estimated between 40% and 75%. 
• Symptoms: Usually start with influenza-like signs such as fever, headaches, and muscle pain, and can rapidly progress to breathing difficulties, disorientation, or coma

International

• Under India’s Chairship, 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting Concludes in Indore, Madhya Pradesh-The 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting was successfully convened on 12–13 June 2026 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, under the Presidency of India.The meeting concluded with unanimous adoption of the BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Joint Declaration, reflecting the collective vision, shared commitments, and consensus achieved through extensive consultations among member countries.
• The Prime Minister of India is scheduled for a historic state visit to Slovakia, marking the first-ever official bilateral visit by an Indian PM to the landlocked Central European nation since its independence in 1993.

Appointments

• Government has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff with effect from the afternoon of 30th June. He is presently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff. The present Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi is retiring from service the same day.
