National

• Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, today launched the IndiaSkills Competition 2026-27, the country’s flagship skill competition. It aims at identifying and nurturing talented youth across 63 industry-relevant skill categories. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said that registrations for the competition have opened on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH).The Ministry said IndiaSkills has evolved into the country’s largest skill competition ecosystem since its launch in 2016.The competition will be held in phases from the district to the national level, with top performers earning the opportunity to represent India at global platforms, including the WorldSkills Competition.
• The Viksit Bharat- Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM G] Act, 2025 will come into force across rural India with effect from tomorrow(July 1).

International

• The United Arab Emirates has achieved a historic milestone in its transport infrastructure today. The first Etihad Rail passenger train has completed its inaugural trial journey, travelling from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi's Mohamed bin Zayed City Station.
• Ireland assumed the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU with effect from July 1, 2026, marking its eighth time holding the position. Running through December 31, 2026, the Irish presidency's primary agenda focuses on strengthening solidarity with Ukraine, driving European competitiveness, and championing international development.
• Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, will arrive in New Delhi tomorrow evening on a three-day visit for the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit.
• India has intensified its humanitarian assistance to earthquake-hit Venezuela under Operation Amistad. The Ministry of External Affairs said that India has extended relief efforts with a focus on medical assistance and emergency support for those affected by the disaster.

Economy and banking

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah today launched the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) 2.0 Portal and the Electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) Card in New Delhi.The FCRA 2.0 Portal has been developed to simplify compliance under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act and to strengthen the monitoring and enforcement mechanism. All major processes related to applications, renewals, annual returns, and other services have now been made fully digital through an end-to-end online system.e-OCI Card is a major citizen-centric initiative aimed at transforming OCI services for the global Indian diaspora through a fully digital platform. Under the new system, applicants can complete the entire OCI process online, from submitting the application and uploading supporting documents to downloading the digitally generated card after approval.
• The Eurobank has launched the UPI-based remittance service for cross-border transfers from Greece to India. The initiative is part of the bank's strategic collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) International Payments Limited.
• India's net external liabilities declined sharply by 52.4 billion US dollar during the January-March quarter of 2025-26 to 209.9 billion US dollar at the end of March, reflecting a fall in foreign-owned assets in the country and a rise in overseas financial assets held by Indian residents.
• Net external liabilities (or Net Foreign Liabilities) measure a country’s or entity's total financial obligations to the rest of the world minus the overseas assets it holds. Calculated as External Liabilities - External Assets, a positive value means a nation or business is a net borrower, while a negative value indicates a net creditor position.

Appointments

• Ravi Agrawal has been re-appointed as Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), on contract basis, for a period of six months with effect from tomorrow till 31st December 2026 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
• General Dhiraj Seth today took charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff from General Upendra Dwivedi, who superannuated after more than four decades of distinguished service to the nation.

• Jharkhand Observes Hul Diwas, Pays Tribute to Hul Rebellion Heroes-On the occasion of Hul Diwas, special programmes were organised today across Jharkhand, including the state capital Ranchi,.The Santhal Rebellion (or Santhal Hul) of 1855–1856 was a major tribal uprising in present-day Jharkhand against the British East India Company and exploitative zamindars (landlords). Initiated on June 30, 1855, by four Murmu brothers (Sidhu, Kanhu, Chand, and Bhairav), the armed resistance mobilized roughly 60,000 Santhals to establish self-rule.
• 40th Peace Accord Day :observed in Mizoram, every June 30, locally known as Remna Ni. This day commemorates the historic 1986 signing of the Mizoram Peace Accord between the Indian Government and the Mizo National Front, which officially ended two decades of insurgency.
• International Day of Parliamentarism :The International Day of Parliamentarism is celebrated annually on June 30. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018, the date marks the anniversary of the founding of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in 1889.

• Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)-Launched on 1 July 2015, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) has completed more than 10 years of advancing irrigation-led agricultural transformation in India. The scheme expands assured irrigation, improves on-farm water efficiency, and promotes sustainable water conservation. It strengthens irrigation through rainwater harvesting and efficient farm-level water distribution under Jal Sanchay (rainwater storage) and Jal Sinchan (efficient water application).
