  • Centre introduces standard edible oil pack sizes to enhance transparency and promote uniform packaging practices-The Centre has introduced standard pack sizes for edible oils under the Legal Metrology framework, bringing greater transparency and uniformity to the marketplace. The Department of Consumer Affairs amended the standard operating procedure, governing the determination of net quantity and standard pack sizes for edible oils and fats under the framework. Standard pack sizes have been prescribed for major edible oils, including palm oil, palmolein, soyabean oil, sunflower oil, mustard oil, groundnut oil, sesame oil, rice bran oil, cotton seed oil and corn oil. The approved pack sizes are 200 g, 500 g, 1 to 5 kg, 15 kg, and 20 kg.

International

  • Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez concludes her visit to India:Acting President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, departed from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at 4 p.m. on Saturday, concluding her visit.
  • BIMSTEC:External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar extended greetings on the occasion of BIMSTEC Day. In a social media post on Saturday.BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) is an international organization of seven South and Southeast Asian nations that rely on the Bay of Bengal. Established on June 6, 1997, it represents 5.2 trillion in combined GDP and houses over 1.7 billion people. Member nations Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand .
  • Russian President offers Sukhoi Su-57 stealth aircraft and joint production in India:Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered New Delhi Russia's fifth-generation stealth aircraft Sukhoi Su-57, and proposed its joint production in India, highlighting the strong strategic partnership between the two countries

Economy and banking

  • RBI simplifies rules for Foreign Portfolio Investors in government securities to make investment in india easier-The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced key changes to the regulatory framework governing investments by Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) in Government Securities, aimed at improving ease of investment and simplifying compliance requirementsUnder the revised framework
    •  FPIs investing through the General Route will no longer be required to comply with short-term investment limits, security-wise limits, and concentration limits. 
    • The RBI has also merged the earlier sub-categories of investment limits, ‘general’ and ‘long-term’, into a single consolidated limit for both Central Government Securities and State Government Securities (SGSs).
    • For FY 2026-27, the revised limits have been set at 4,62,490 crore rupees for the first half and 4,77,006 crore rupees for the second half for Central Government Securities, while the corresponding limits for SGSs are 1,53,043 crore rupees and 1,64,242 crore rupees.

  • India beat Bangladesh 3–1 to win sixth SAFF Women’s Championship title-India thrashed Bangladesh 3-1 to clinch a record-extending sixth SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 title at Margao, Goa, on Saturday. Pyari Xaxa, Lynda Kom Serto and Sanfida Nongrum scored a goal each for India, while Ritu Porna Chakma netted the lone goal for Bangladesh.
  • Mirra Andreeva wins maiden Grand Slam title at French Open-Russian eighth-seeded Mirra Andreeva won her maiden Grand Slam title after getting the better of Maja Chwalinska of Poland in straight sets in the womens singles final of the French Open. It was a dominant display by the 19-year-old, defeating Chwalinska 6-3, 6-3 to secure a memorable victory.
  • India tops medal table with 7 medals at World Yogasana Sports Championship 2026-In the World Yogasana Sports Championship 2026, India’s Rohan Tayde won gold medal at Ahmedabad on Saturday. He achieved this achievement in the boys’ sub-junior artistic single competition. He expressed happiness after winning the medal.
    • So far, India has won a total of 7 medals, including six gold, in this world-class yoga competition. Yesterday, India’s sub-junior boys’ traditional group team defeated Nepal to win the gold medal. India’s junior girls’ traditional group team also defeated Nepal to win the gold medal. India has maintained its top position in the medal table.
  • Savitha Shri Baskar wins 2026 Women’s Asian Individual Chess Championship-Nineteen-year-old Savitha Shri Baskar has won the 2026 Women’s Asian Individual Chess Championship in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. With the win, she also secured qualification for the 2027 FIDE Women’s World Cup.
  • India clinch Men’s U-18 Asia Cup title, thrash Japan 4-1 in final:Indian Men's Hockey team has lifted the Under-18 Asia Cup for the third time, thrashing hosts Japan 4-1 in the final in Kakamigahara on Saturday.
    • The Indian Women’s U-18 Hockey Team secured the Bronze Medal at the 2026 Women's U-18 Asia Cup in Kakamigahara, Japan, defeating South Korea 3-0 in the third-place match. In the gold medal match, China captured the championship by defeating host nation Japan 2-1
  • Indian Grandmaster, R Praggnanandhaa scripts history; Becomes first Indian to win Norway Chess title-In chess, Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa has created history by becoming the first Indian to win the Norway Chess title in Oslo, with a final-round victory over Germany’s Vincent Keymer.Praggnanandhaa, who began the day in third place, secured a crucial classical win worth three points to finish with 18 points and seal the title. The 20-year-old from Chennai achieved a feat that had eluded Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand and reigning world champion D. Gukesh since the tournament began in 2013.
