National

  • MoU signed to bring substrate manufacturing technology to India-The MoU has been signed between the Government of Odisha, Intel Corporation and 3DGS Inc. USA for a framework to establish an Advanced Packaging Glass Core Substrate Manufacturing Facility in Odisha. The project represents one of the largest high-technology manufacturing investments in the country. The facility is proposed to be located in the Bhubaneswar-Khurda region.
  • SARTHAK-PDS-Cabinet approves Integration and Continuation of two schemes viz. (i) “Assistance to State Agencies for intra-State movement of foodgrains and FPS dealers’ margin under NFSA” and (ii) “Scheme for Modernization and Reforms through Technology in Public Distribution System (SMART PDS)” under umbrella scheme SARTHAK-PDS.The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of the “Scheme for Assistance in Ration Transport and Handling-Income with Automation in PDS” (SARTHAK PDS) as an umbrella scheme, in the 16th Finance Commission cycle award period, with an outlay of Rs. 25,530 crore as Central share.
  • Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged states to prepare for a potentially below-normal monsoon amid El Niño concerns-He referenced the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) projection that southwest monsoon rainfall is likely to be around 90% of the long-period average.
  • The Supreme Court of India officially mandated that all High Courts must pronounce a reserved judgment within a maximum period of three months-On May 29, 2026, a bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant issued a comprehensive set of binding guidelines under Article 142 of the Constitution to eliminate the "reserve and forget" habit and tackle persistent judicial delays.
  • Eight Asiatic lions, including four cubs, died in Gujarat's Gir Forest between mid-May and late May 2026, amid a suspected outbreak of the tick-borne Babesia parasite. Additionally, over two dozen lions have been isolated by the state forest department for medical monitoring and treatment.

  • India’s men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the semifinals of the Singapore Open Super 750 badminton tournament today. Rankireddy and Chirag beat the Malaysian pair of Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing 19-21, 21-17, 21-13.

  • May 29 is observed globally as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers-Established by the UN General Assembly in 2002, the day honors the professionalism and sacrifice of all men and women who have served in UN peacekeeping operations and pays tribute to those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.
  • Nation pays tribute to former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh on his death anniversary today-Chaudhary Charan Singh was India's 5th Prime Minister, serving from July 1979 to January 1980. A prominent peasant leader, he was the chief architect of agrarian reforms in Uttar Pradesh. He is widely revered as the "messiah of farmers", and was posthumously awarded India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna.

  • El Niño is a natural climate pattern characterized by the abnormal warming of surface ocean waters in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. Occurring every 2 to 7 years, it weakens normal trade winds, disrupting global weather, shifting rainfall patterns, and fueling higher global temperatures.
  • The only place in India—and the only natural habitat in the world outside of Africa—where wild lions are found is the Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
