BSNL Launches Nationwide VoWiFi Service: On New Year, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) rolled out Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) services across all telecom circles. This technology allows users to make calls and send messages via a Wi-Fi network in areas with weak mobile signals without needing a third-party app.
New District in Goa: The Goa government officially announced the creation of its third district, named Kushavati, after the ancient Kushavati River. The district will include the Sanguem, Dharbandora, Quepem, and Canacona talukas, with its headquarters at Quepem.
Aadhaar Gets a Mascot: The UIDAI has launched an official mascot named "Udai" to help simplify and humanize Aadhaar-related information for citizens.
Tobacco Tax Reform: Effective today, the government has notified the Central Excise (Amendment) Act, 2025. It ends the GST compensation cess on tobacco and introduces a new Health and National Security Cess to regulate "sin goods" while simplifying the tax structure.

Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO): The Gujarat government has approved the establishment of the IAIRO at GIFT City, Gandhinagar. This will be a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) aimed at boosting AI research in India.
