  • Supreme Court Verdict on SC Status: A Bench headed by Justice P.K. Mishra ruled that only Hindus, Sikhs, and Buddhists can claim Scheduled Caste (SC) status. The court upheld that a person converting to Christianity or Islam cannot seek SC benefits, invoking Clause 3 of the Constitution (Scheduled Caste) Order, 1950.

International

  • Exercise Kakadu 2026: The Indian Navy’s frigate INS Nilgiri participated in the 17th edition of ‘Exercise Kakadu’ in Darwin, Australia. The crew of INS Nilgiri won the Kakadu Shield Trophy during the harbor phase.Exercise Kakadu is the Royal Australian Navy’s premier biennial multinational maritime exercise, first held in 1993, designed to enhance interoperability and strengthen maritime security partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region. It involves intensive sea and harbour phases featuring over 25 nations, involving warships, aircraft, and personnel conducting operations ranging from anti-submarine warfare to humanitarian assistance.

Economy and Banking

  • China Becomes India's 3rd Largest Export Destination: In February 2026, China overtook the Netherlands to become India's third-largest export market. The USA and UAE remain the top two destinations.
  • Rare Earth Magnet Plant: India’s first pilot plant for Neodymium-Iron-Boron (Nd-Fe-B) rare earth permanent magnets was established at ARCI, Hyderabad. This aims to reduce import dependence for EV motors and electronics.
  • RBI injects 55,837 crore into banking system through three-day VRR auction-The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today injected 55,837 crore rupees into the banking system through a three-day variable rate repo (VRR) auction.

Sports

  • National Indoor Athletics Championships: The inaugural edition of India’s first-ever National Indoor Athletics Championships concluded at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar (March 24–25).
  • A consortium led by the Aditya Birla Group has acquired 100% ownership of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL and WPL franchises from United Spirits Limited (Diageo India) for a record INR 16,660 crore (approx. US$1.78 billion) in March 2026. The consortium includes TOI Group, Bolt Ventures, and Blackstone.
